I wouldn't call it knee jerk. As an outside observer it seemed to me like Reid had plenty of chances. They've been more or less mediocre for a while now.
Anyone stating there's no wind in Denver has either never been there or is oblivious. When you're on the DENVER side of the rockies, there is nothing but plains for quite a ways. They don't do much to block the wind.
I know I might get blasted for saying this, but it really doesn't seem like the guy can take a hit. For example, the hit Sunday night, I believe it was by Foote, is the type of hit that happens lots of times per game somewhere on the field.
Be that as it may, he needs to find another sport or vocation. There is no way to avoid those hits as a WR in the NFL no matter how "safe" they make the game.
College sports have willingly made themselves a commodity. Yeah, people come and get excited and spend big money when you are exciting and winning. And when you're not, they don't. Not too confusing. Maybe they could follow the lead of the Pirates and start having firework night if they can't field a competitive team.
The sun don't shine on the same dog's a_s every day.
The NFL has peaked in popularity. And the lockout will only exacerbate this. So keep fighting over that pie, b/c in five years I guarantee total revenues are smaller per player/team.
I don't really get all the Cooke comments...it's not like Lemieux said "fine teams other than the Pens when Cooke hits someone."
At least Lemeiux is willing to try address what clearly is a problem for the league even when he knows his own team contributes in part to the problem. Plus it would give him and the team some incentive to get Cooke in line or get rid of him.
Also, let's not forget that it wasn't really the defense who turned the ball over 3 times. Granted, the Steelers D, and Troy in particular, did not play their best game. But I'd say a lot more of the blame is on Big Ben and the O.
A good friend of mine who was watching the Steelers/Jets game with me is a sports med. doc. He said a high ankle sprain isn't like a lot of other injuries where you can shoot them up with something good and send them back in.
He wasn't putting weight on his leg when it happened. People miss 6-8 weeks plus with this type of injury. I'd be stunned if he plays. Which is a shame for him, great rookie season.
Does it strike you as even the slightest bit ironic that your Jets are the team who picked up Holmes? Holmes who is a SB MVP. visible position player, etc., and who was traded by Pittsburgh because he was:
Arrested for disorderly conduct Arrested for domestic violence and assault Arrested for marijuana possession Had a lawsuit filed (and probably settled) against him for throwing a shot glass at a female patron in a bar
So step off your soap box for a minute and realize that A LOT of players in the entire NFL are probably not good people.
Jeff, there are times when fans are wrong to complain, but I'm afraid this isn't one of them. You're kicking poorly, and lashing out at the media and fans isn't going to help your kicking. Until this year you were the most accurate kicker in the NFL despite kicking (approx) half of your kicks at Heinz Field. So something has changed, and it isn't the turf. And what about your somewhat critical miss in N.O.?? That's a dome, with turf. So if you're not going to make excuses, then don't. I hope they cut him. No love lost.

The 26 yarder against NE being the last straw is not the same as blaming him for the loss.
