I've met Van Slyke twice after his playing days. He is not just a guy who acts like a p.r.i.c.k. like someone said. He's a decent guy, but one who will call BS when he sees it, and not really care if someone is offended by it. He's my all time favorite player, and I'd watch post game interviews when he played. Same thing. Nice guy to talk to, but wouldnt pull punches about something, or someone, who did something he didn't like.
I say give him the job. Maybe he can light a fire under the players. They've got a good core group with a lot of talent, but not much experience. Maybe he's just the guy to cultivate these players and bring the Bucs out of the basement
