He's a DH. I always sorta liked him, but he's never been able to crack the big leagues for whatever reason.

Kelly is playing SS now because he reached his innings limit as a pitcher for the season, and he did both in college, so the Sox said they'd give him a shot at SS too. But he'd really have to blow them away with the bat for them not to make him a starter in the long run.

I don't know if he "owes" them anything, but I half-expected him to be like "you know what. This team signed me when no one else wanted me. Let me take my time to get ready and handed me a rotation spot. They stuck with me while I shat the bed time and time again and cost them games. Yes, I'll go to the minors and work out of the 'pen. I just want to help them win."

Obviously that was naive.
