Dear Free Press,

Please stop publishing. You never have your details straight. MSU was the only program to offer Appling a scholarship and the only way this kid was not going to play ball for MSU was if Izzo didn't offer him one. Also, please stop calling these types of commitments "ORAL" commitments. That's just ridiculous.

That said, Appling is a pretty nice looking prospect and another good get for Sparty. If he keeps developing over the next two HS seasons he could be a top 10 or 15 prospect.

Kitna can only hope this is true.

Drew Sharp is a worthless hack, though, so Kitna probably knows he has at least a few more months to wake up realizing he's employed by the Fords.

For someone like Brewster, who's known as a great recruiter but not necessarily the best X's and O's guy, to go into a program like Minnesota and instantly proclaim that they are going to reach the pinnacle (Rose Bowl, BCS, etc)... is just silly.

Set reasonable goals. Try .500 football and some solid fund raising for that new stadium first, then try 8-4. Then start talking about reaching the next level.

If he was still available with the 29th pick when my Pistons were drafting, I still wouldn't want him.

Since you can't hit the Goalile - you'd have to be one pretty **** dumb Goalie NOT to fall down when someone comes in contact with you.

But hey, this is the best offense the Penguins have showed thus far in the series?
Posted Wednesday May 21, 2008, About: Big 12 wants fifth year for football
Hmmm... so would they also be pushing for a boost in the 85 scholarship limit? I can't imagine many coaches being too thrilled with having even more of those 85 tied up for a 5th year.
Posted Friday May 16, 2008, About: NFL teams lining up for LA market?
This sounds like the perfect opportunity for the NFL to kill the pitiful excuse of an organization known as the Detroit Lions. Move them out to LA and start completely over from scratch with new... everything.

"These schools need to take a page out of Michigan's playbook. General Studies, Independent study courses with grossly inflated grades, etc etc."

And... of course you have EXTENSIVE proof of this, right? Probably the same EXTENSIVE proof that the Ann Arbor News was able to dig up in their 7-month investigation that amounted to all of three athletes with a few too many independent study classes on their transcripts. Wow. Shocking.

It's not our fault your old man won't give it up. Keep hatin' on us. I love it.
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Are Pac 10 & Big Ten to blame?
Hahaha... so one one hand there's no way you could get that many people to travel and then on the other hand you're saying that there's too many fans that would be in the stands to make the logistics possible to have two games at one site?

This is exactly why a playoff will never happen. Nobody even knows where to start and the answer is always "no".
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Are Pac 10 & Big Ten to blame?
So apparently, the fan bases of the college basketball teams are smaller? Or easier to manage the travel of? Admittedly some are (e.g. Davidson, Valparaiso, etc). But what about the high majors and elite programs?

Anyone got any revenue statistics handy for what takes in more money? Bowl games or the NCAA tournaments? If I had to guess I would say they are about equal.

And I'm talking about total revenue - not just the gate.

A playoff could easily happen, if only people would take their heads out of the sand.
Posted Monday April 21, 2008, About: Penn LB to commit to Buckeyes
I mean, he's a 5-star LB prospect out of high school who's highlight films show him unblocked more than 2/3 of the time... what could possibly go wrong at the college level? All of the rest are NFL starting LBs, no?

If a guy commits to your arch rival before even visiting, do you even care? I don't need any more Justin Boren losers, thank you.
Posted Thursday April 17, 2008, About: Young RB excites Badgers
I remember when we were recruiting this guy. I think he was too fast for us, though. We used to like to recruit guys who run 4.6 and 4.7 in the 40 for RB. Otherwise they would run into our fat slow linemen who were blocking... air.

Jesus thank god that's over.

I just... I mean...

How the hell does this act ever get to the point of being tradition? How does it even happen one time without scholarship athletes being demoted or getting kicked off the team?

RN supposedly addressed the team about this well before it happened. He should have just said, "Guys, if you walk off that field you walk off your spot on the depth chart - period."
Posted Tuesday April 01, 2008, About: Wolverines land Ohio commitment
Yeah, you're talking about Mealer JR. That's quite a family and QUITE a situation they have been put through. RR has been to the hospital a few times while his brother has been stuck in there. Everyone should be praying he can walk again in the future. You should see the donations that have rolled in for his family, especially after news got out that they were going to have make a lot of changes to their house to allow for the brother to move around in his current state.

As for recruiting a kid to get to another - I don' think there are any serious errors in judgment happening (recruiting a kid who simply cannot play at the school's level just for the sake of having a friend recruit someone else) but coaches seem to be willing to take a shot on a developmental project or a kid that will be able to provide only depth since they need those kind of guys anyway. And if it has an obvious connection to a higher-level prospect that's all the better.
Posted Tuesday April 01, 2008, About: Wolverines land Ohio commitment
Without getting into all of the P*** and S*** of the matter (good grief people), let's get back to the facts of the situation:

This is an under-the-radar prospect who is still growing. Going to be tough to keep him quick and fast enough to stay at Safety. I'm guessing he will end up being a Will linebacker in college so he can run the field.

Also, though he is a pretty nice prospect, I think this was equal parts interest in Bell and interest in securing a commitment from his teammate - a speedy slot receiver who has Michigan on the brain as well.
Posted Monday March 24, 2008, About: Why Pryor nixed Pitt & Penn State
I'm starting to hate this site. The content is too often terrible, out of date and stuck on one topic for far too long.

Then the comments come. And I start to fear for America and the future of the human race.

psuambassador - don't even try. People on here just want to read the headline and start the smack talk. They don't want facts. They don't want to actually think for a second or read for 2 minutes. What does it tell you that, regardless of the fact that it had been repeatedly reported that Joe Pa had been to visit TP over and over, people still want to claim he didn't take an active enough role in recruiting him?

You're using percentages man... percentages.

The only posts that get attention around here are "you're school's dumber" ,no YOUR school's dumber! Your school has more criminals, no YOUR school's got more criminals. back and forth and back and forth and back and...

This site is barely worth the price of the subscription.
Posted Monday March 24, 2008, About: Wolverines eye future QBs
To answer the Forcier questions, Mr. Forcier is from Michigan originally and the whole family has maintained their affinity for Michigan out in California.

Jason Forcier (one of Tate's older brothers) was a decent mobile QB prospect and transferred out of Michigan because he had a beef with our ex-QB coach Scott Loeffler, didn't get backed by Lloyd Carr either and felt he did not get his rightful shot in between Henne's and Mallett's time.

To this day, Jason still likes Michigan (maybe even more so, now that Loeffler and Carr are gone) and is in favor of Tate going to Michigan.

Other tidbits you might like to know:

Tate Forcier and Kevin Newsome are actually "buddies" and keep in contact with each other from their days/meetings on the passing camp circuits.

Loeffler is a pure drop back QB coach and essentially has a core disdain for QBs not operating in a classic drop back mode at all times. Likely, it was this difference in philosophy that started the rift between he and Jason Forcier. Loeffler, by the way, is now the Detroit Lions QB coach. (FYI)

Tate Forcier is HOME SCHOOLED and I don't believe he attends many classes at the high school he actually plays for. I find this completely odd that it is even allowed, but - hey, that's how this cookie crumbles.

The kid pictured along with Rodriguez is Nick Sheridan, a WALK ON redshirt sophomore who actually has a very small lead for the QB battle right now.
Posted Tuesday March 18, 2008, About: Expert: Pryor to OSU or Michigan
MajorBucksfan - just so we're clear: there were Michigan fans who wanted Pryor badly. I was definitely never one of them. I could care less whether you want to believe me or not, but no way do I want our program to get involved with a kid like this. This guy's already the very definition of a thug. How many fights has he been in in the past month alone? Who owns the Corvette he's driving? How much is it going to take to move his family to the area?

Furthermore, who really cares if some of those fans did want him at Michigan now change their mind. The guy took two years to get into his own recruiting process and is simply walking around looking for the highest bidder. This is information that maybe those fans didn't have 3-4 months ago. But important information, none the less.

I don't know why I bother responding. You talk about my two-year-old "MANTALITY"... hahaha. This guy will fit right in in c-bus.

"3rd and 4 for the buckeyes, 3:45 left in the third quarter... Pryor back to throw, he's surveying the field.... still surveying... got a man wide open but he doesn't see him... still looking, what's he doing? Still looking, now looks flushed... still looking... oh my god what is he doing... he pumps, now runs the other way, now reverses course! Running towards the sideline with his hands held out... what's he looking for? He doesn't know what to do! Now takes off and, wait, oh no, he stepped out of bounds! That's a loss of 17 folks! What took him so long back there? He had all day to pull the trigger but just didn't know what he wanted to do with the ball."

Can't wait.
