I find it strange as well. Time Warner bought BR last August, so they now have two sports-oriented news organizations.
Here is one explanation http://tinyurl.com/9s8mccm
Essentially, the parent company is Time Warner. it has two children on the news side: CNN/Turner and Time (ignore the Warner side, which is movies etc.). SI was a child of CNN, and FN is a child of SI.
So it used to be: TimeWarner -> CNN -> SI -> FN
Time wrestled control of SI (and its ad revenue) from CNN in an internal corporate coup, so CNN went out and bought BR to get sports back in its news portfolio.
So now the corporation has two sports organizations: TimeWarner -> Time -> SI -> FN, and TimeWarner -> CNN -> BR
So for the near term, CNN will pimp BR. If you go to the CNN site and check out sports, you will get directed to BR articles instead of SI articles.
I also expect the SI URL to change from Sportsillustrated.cnn.com to Sportsillustrated.time.com or something. But since FN is a child of SI, I don't think FN will change much.
Until the next round of corporate shuffling inside TimeWarner.
The Northwestern game should be a good one. If MSU holds their own or (God forbid) wins, I'll be on here to say I was way off base with the 'overrated' tag.

I chalk it up to poor coaching. :)
And the scary part is that there is every reason to think that they will do it all again next year.
I feel it when I sorrow most;
'Tis better to have loved and lost
Than never to have loved at all.
