2 out of the last 3 World Series would seem to differ with this analysis. The standard for excellence today, in terms of staff excellence, is the SF Giants, and every team out there is trying to duplicate their success. And there's more in their minor-league system.
They ought to change the Yankees name to the Nebuchadnezzars, the Henny Youngmans, the AARP-Boys, the AnythingOldandGrumpies, the YesterdayNewses.............
Just not with the Dodgers and Red Sox, but who is really benefitting by all these 7 year contracts? Players? Owners? Fans? Agents? Can anyone out there name one of these long term contracts that has benefitted both ownership and player alike? Anyone? Hello, I'm looking for an answer........
What.......no Soriano? Just add everybody's Johnny-Bag-A-Donuts Carlos Lee to the mix, and the Giants could have matching buddhas at the corners in SF. Rag arm Soriano in left, Rag arm Zito on the mound, Hot Plate Carlos at first....................and these all could have happened on Sabean's watch. And this team is still in first place despite a GM, despite his good signings now and then, all of sudden turns into the Lindsay Lohan of GM's...........just a matter of time before something ugly happens.
Well, looks like a bunch of descendants of Thomas Wolfe are getting worked up over nothing. Laughable that a group of mouthbreathers can say anything worthy at all
Worried about hurting the kid's self-confidence? Maybe the Giants should give Tim one of those "compete" trophies they give kids in little league, and tell him they love him no matter what. The Giants are full of "nice" guys, truth in fact, they're soft. Soft, soft, soft like Grandma's tummy, and Lincecum falls right into that mold.
The Giants will do what they did last year, come up with some shadowy excuse to put him on the 60 day DL, and ship him off to Fresno, their AAA affiliate. But don't worry, there are plenty of nice malls in Fresno and an Indian Casino close by in case he gets bored living in the Central Valley. It is interesting from a management perspective because they are going to have to pay him whether or not he's productive as a major league pitcher. Watch out for the Giants once they get rid of him and Aubrey Huff. They got rid of Rowand last year, then they won't have any excuses left for the p.r. department to make once the Kavorka leaves town.
Have any of you chuckleheads been around for Sabean's free agency signings? This is like manna from heaven. Player development, yes, the Giants are starting to develop players that can play at the major league level. But if this team needs to find help with this GM via free agency, its never going to happen. Never.
You have to understand that within the confines of the Bay Area, Brian Sabean GM of the Giants, is not well loved, even after being a part of a World Series winner. If he were to trade Lincecum, he'd have to hire security guards to be around him 24 hours a day to avoid a real ugly incident. Know this Boston and Yankee fans, it would take a combination of Granderson AND Cano, or, Ellsbury AND Pedroia to pry Lincecum away from the Giants. Sabean might be slow but he's not going to trade Lincecum away for any combination of prospects in either the Yankees or Red Sox farm systems.
Another broken down 30 something to add to their roster. Bring him on, and sign Beltran also. When both are on the DL next year, its the only chance that Sabean can hang himself. If Freddy Sanchez reinjures himself, Panda gains 30 pounds over the course of a season, Cain and Lincecum have ERA's under 2.00 and each only win 9 games, maybe management can make the necessary changes needed for this franchise to get back on track.
Just what the Giants need....another 32 year old ballplayer on the downside of his career. If he'll take 2 year contract with a club option for a 3rd year, maybe. Giants management is not going to offer anyone, and I mean ANYONE any 5,6,7 year deal in the near future. Can you say Zito? Can you say Rowand? And the front office has a terrible record with free agents, just look it up.
These 5,6,7 year deals don't work, period. Just ask the Giants (Zito), Red Sox (Crawford), Yankees (Rodriguez) how they feel now that they've inked these contracts. I'm sure there's more out there, but when the agent comes flying with these kinds of offers, GM's ought to run for cover, or allow the fanbase to burn them at the stake when they make a bonehead move that basically cripples a franchise.
Gee, if he's 34 or over, and on the downside of his career, injury-prone to boot, seems like it's time to call Brian Sabean of the SF Giants, to see if he can get an overpaid, 4-5 year contract.
Hey, trade him to the Giants! He's perfect for them, he's old, doesn't hit for power, on the downside of his career, and Brian Sabean would probably extend his contract for another two years! Perfect for the Giants!
Kemp, Kershaw will look good in a Giants uni really soon. Just keep the McCourt circus in town for a while longer and no one is going to want to play for this franchise.
Giants are not going to offer ANYONE a contract longer than 3 years with a club option for a fourth. Period. Idiots that sign players for 5, 6 or 7 years are going to have to reside East of the Mississippi. And as long as BASEBALL is not subject to anti-trust exemptions, NO ONE, and I mean NO ONE has any real idea how much money any team actually makes in a season. My personal feeling is that they are printing money, printing money in a way that makes Vegas jealous.
Anyone out there want the gristle (Rowand, Zito, Huff, DeRosa, Tejada, Ross, Torres, Fontenot, Burrell) of the Giants steak this year? You can have any of them by calling Brian Sabean, AT&T park, San Francisco, CA.
And there's more in their minor-league system.
Perfect for the Giants!
