Won't happen vs Pac. Unfortunately Golden Boy and Top Rank still can't play nice.
I think Pac should go on a revenge tour and call it quits. After Rios go after Bradley, he can win that and one last go around with Marquez, not sure he can win this anymore but its his only big fight that is make-able. Also needs to get rid of the leeches in his life and learn to enjoy life out of the spotlight.
Watch showtime this weekend. Peterson vs Matthysse is a close fight between two guys who like to fight. It could be the fight of the year and we already have like 3 or 4 candidates. Rafael called it one of the best fights that could be made and I don't think he is far off. Peterson is tough as nails, reminds me of Glenn Johnson in many ways, and P4P Matthysse is one of the strongest punchers in the sport.
I guess what i am saying with Margarito that is the last time I didn't see Pac finish stronger then he started. The next fight vs Mosley, sure he won the later rounds in sweeping fashion but the Pac that fought Cotto finishes the job and ends the fight before the final bell. I just didn't see the same fighter after that Margarito bout. No it wasn't Margarito alone but a accumulation of tough fights but IMO that was the moment Pac feel from his prime.
I loved this guys career. Gave us so many memorable moments and his time at 126 and 130 was some of the best that any boxer gave us. I just hope he saves the money from his next couple of fights.
We have had a great year in boxing. This could be fight of the year but I Rios vs Alvarado is up there and so is Bradley's last fight. Been a lot of good ones this year.
I won't say it was Margarito that took it alone, Pac is a the type of fighter that takes too many shots to get his in and I think this was the waive of shots that took Pac from his prime. He just simply was taking too many shots vs bigger guys. Cotto took some out of him too but he wasn't slowing down yet.
When Pac fought Bradley he slowed down in the later rounds. That was something we have never seen before. His prime is over, I actually hopes he retires. He was a great fighter.
Not unless Pac is truly done and even than a fighters power is usually the last thing to leave him. Rios blocks shots with his face. Love watching the guy but you can't take Pac's shots straight in the face and expect to be standing in the end. The only chance I see is that if Pac's chin is dented and can't take a punch, I just don't believe that. Rios won't connect like Marquez did.
Rios brings more fans to the table. Being from Denver I like Alvarado a lot but he isn't the attraction Rios is. Rios brings the Mexican fan base a bit more since he can speak Spanish. I was at an Alvarado fight when he fought Miguel Angel Huerta who was from Mexico and even here in Denver the Mexican had support from at least a third of the crowd. Surprised me a bit.
I don't have a huge problem with the match up because Manny needs an easy one after all the fights he has taken. Rios is tough as nails but is a horribly poor when it comes to defense. If Manny is even 85% of what he was he shouldn't lose a round here and it won't go the distance. Sure Rios has a great chin but Pac has power that is on another level.
Manny has been slowing down and I pin point it to the late body shot he took from Margarito. That shot looked to hurt him a bit that night and every fight since Manny just hasn't looked like the same fighter. I had him beating Bradley but it was a lot closer than what HBO saw where I think a prime Manny kayos Bradley in 5 or 6 rounds.
I though he lost the first two fights to Marquez and actually put in a bet on Marquez on the last one. Marquez is still fighting pretty close the same level as his prime where Manny hasn't looked himself in awhile.
Yea Sergio looks to be just about done. I thought he lost that fight vs Murray.
Zab won the late rounds which is usually the exact opposite of how he usually fights but didn't do enough early to get the win. Showed he can still fight and would make a good opponent for either Rios or Alvarado.
Khan can't fight anyone who can punch. He just can't take a punch. Great offensive skills but can't trust that chin.
Should be a decent card tonight. I don't see an upset happening but I was getting that feeling yesterday watching some old Guerrero fights but I didn't like his demeanor at the weigh in. He is acting a little out of character for this fight and I don't like it when the event changes the fighters normal behavior. He has the style to win, not sure he has the skill though. Needs to keep working that jab all night.
Mares vs Ponce should be a war too. Not a bad card. Future super star Leo Santa Cruz, guy can really fight.
Boxing has had a fantastic year so far. Great fights with Bradley and Rios vs Alvarado. Others too, HBO has had a good run this year so far.
I don't have too much hope for them but they can pull it out. Marquette plays good tough defense and has a PG that plays good defense too. I actually wish Miami's big man Johnson was playing, I wanted to see him and Gardner bang underneath. Be about a quarter ton or more of human banging for a rebound, would have shown up on the richter scale.
Marquette has already over achieved this year. Picked to finish 7th in the Big East. Watch for next year. Have a Juco player McKay coming in and returning a lot of key players. Could be final four worthy.
How come AD is never mentioned with steroids? Just about any other athlete blows his knee and comes back stronger than ever there are allegations of PED use? Some guys who are just good get the allegations but AD seems to get a pass. Not saying he should be accused but in this day it seems no one gets a pass on this.
Is there such a thing as a Dark Horse in the NBA? I guess if it all it takes is win one round than I guess its possible but the NBA playoffs are the worse for upsets. No parity in that league with only 9 different champions since 1980.
The only thing that has me the least bit interested is that Lucas won't be directing it. Episodes 1-3 where pretty bad. The 3rd being the best but still only something I would call less than good.
I just don't see very good story lines coming out of the last 3. What will be the conflict? The empire has fallen and the main villain is gone. I just don't see 3 movies to make here.
Shaq is great. A bit of a donkey at times but deserve his recognition. Shouldn't get the attention of Jordan but I am sick of the attention Jordan got this week.
If you are GM in the NBA you need one of the top stars. No league has lest parity than the NBA. I don't get why anyone even watches this league. Since 1980 they have had only 9 different champions. Stop wasting your time with this star driven league. If it was actually team basketball I would give it a chance but it isn't.
