Love this guy. I mean there is a video interview of him about pitching and basically he said it was to lighten his team up, instead of everyone hanging their heads they could all laugh at him on the mound. He is a great teammate. Even when his numbers cool, he still is now officially a New York Yankee fan favorite.

I have not seen a mid 90's fastball come at my head. After seeing the video, I am quite sure Abreu was angry because hey... that thing would hurt reeeeeal bad if Josh missed. I think it all would have been ok if Josh just turned around and ignored the situation. It's one thing to have a Wakefield 30mph junk pitch come at your head in that situation as opposed to a 90mph anything. I like pitchers who will knock a guy back, but you can also understand the batter being a wee bit perturbed by it. Same thing goes for Joba and Youk. I like that Joba will still pitching him in, and I am not sure those were head hunting pitches... at the same time I sure can understand Youk being angry. I would.

As we all know I dislike the Sox. I have no problem with Beckett throwing high and tight in that situation, just good old fashion baseball. Sorry guys, it was intentional and that is ok. I wouldn't blame him for it any more than if AJ did it for the Yankees. What I do think was a little annoying was Beckett coming off the mound towards home plate jawing at the Abreu and the ump. He sent Abreu the message, message received. Just calmly walk away and fiddle with the rosin bag and smile to yourself.

As a someone who has called NYC home for more than two decades and misses it terribly.... nothing Joba said bothered me. No one says "thank you", the drivers are nuts, Yogi is short. Nothing to see here folks just another example of how the sports media is indoctrinating you all by turning meta stories into a rolling ball of stupid.

Hell I wouldn't pay 250 to see a regular season game. Maybe if you told me it would be a 15 inning slugfest against Boston in which Joba knocks down Youk sparking a 10 minute brawl where Jeter kung fu kicks JD Drew, Matsui hits a grand slam, Posada guns down 10 runners, Damon throws Ellsbury out at the plate, Pedroia grounds out into a triple play, Papi hits 3 over the wall only to have Gardner climb the wall and snag them and Cody Ransom hits a inside the parker to win in the bottom of the 15th. Oh and maybe Mo strikes out the side three innings in a row. Then maybe. I am willing to pay 50-60 for a ticket, I am actually flying back home to NYC to catch the Twins-Yanks series in May to check out the new Stadium. I love baseball but I am confident unless someone I know gets uber rich, I am not sitting at the field level at any major league park whose team has finished in the top 3 of their division in the past 10 years.

Red Sox paid 50 million just to negotiate with Dice-K who never faces an American major league team. Worked out well for Boston. Could have been a disaster. Now of course this kid doesn't have the resume Dice-K did. 50 million? Not gonna happen. But every scout who watches this kid says he is the best they ever saw. This kid could be a flash in the pan and blow out his arm in a year or he could be the next Nolan Ryan. Who wants to make that 50 million dollar bet?

Joba was consistently hitting 94-96 mph today against the Reds. Struck out 5 walked 3 and had some bad misplays by Melky. The kid is fine.

It is very simple. If Joba just had a Fastball and a decent secondary pitch he would be a prime candidate for a closer-setup man. Joba has a 96-99 mph Fastball, he has a 90 mph vicious slider, he has a B grade 12-6 Curve and his changeup is decent. He has 2 A+ pitches, 1 B pitch, 1 C+ pitch. When you have someone with "stuff" you do NOT put him in the bullpen. With the stupid logic being thrown out there by the media guys like Beckett, Hamels, Halladay and Lincecum should all be in the pen. His ERA as a starter last year in a small sample size was less than 3.00.
