Hate to say it but since the Caps have more points than the Pens the formula seems to be working. Plus they have secured a playoff berth. Can't fault them for going with what works.

It was a stupid move by Crosby. Regardless of the hit on Malkin for the "leader" of the team to take that penalty when they have yet to secure a playoff spot is stupid. Further for him to fight an opponent that clearly outmatches him also lacks intelligence. Imagine the outrage had he actually connected on a punch and knocked himself out of the playoffs with a broken hand or earned himself a broken jaw.
Just not smart......

There should be a test regarding football knowledge to be able to post on this site, one which I imagine you would fail miserably.

Not sure how you can argue that they were not big parts. Malone, Roberts and Ruutu were essential against the boards. Hossa was an extremely good point scorer in the playoffs. Conklin carried that team while Fleury was injured. What happens if he gets hurt again at any point.
Are they all replacable? Maybe but have the Pens picked up any other players.
I look at a team like Detroit and I see them getting even better this year. They too have some young players that will get better (Zetts and Pavel). Osggod is solid now with a sevicable backup. Hossa is a huge addition to that team. Sorry even if the Pens make it to the Finals again they just have not made any moves that will improve the outcome from last year.

Please can any of the Pens fans tell me why they think this has been a good offseason for the Pens. It is great they have signed Malkin and Orpik but how are they better than last year? Malone, Roberts, Ruutu, Conklin and Hossa were huge parts of that team last year and have yet to be replaced. Who is left on the FA market that is as good as Hossa?
Bottom line unless the Pens start adding quality players they will not be better than last year. Gentle reminder they fell short last year.

I live in Pittsburgh and I will be the first to admit that it is not a good hockey town. Football is and always will be first here. As an avid hockey fan I try to go to games whenever it fits into my budget and I attended several games the year before Crosby arived. The Igloo was often times only at half capacity. Now that they are winning it is sold out which just makes it that much harder for me to get cheap tickets but that does not constitue a good hockey environment.
I am still not optimistic that the Pens will win the cup this year. The arguement that the core is essentially the same means nothing to me since they failed to win this past year with that "core". Until I see how Shero replaces all of the departed players I will hold my optimism.
Posted Wednesday July 02, 2008, About: Agent: Pens to extend Malkin
Anybody that thinks that this was a good day for the burgh is fooling themselves. They did not win the finals with Hossa, Malone, Ruutu and Roberts. As far as I can see they have yet to pick up anyone that is an improvement for their team over the players that they lost. Yes they signed Malkin but last time I checked he and Crosby can not play every shift. Who still left on the market will be an adequate replacement for Hossa and Ruutu? Roberts and Malone are more expendable but until the Pens pick up any players to replace the ones they lost I will not be sold on their offseason moves.
With Orpik signed I think either Whitney or Gonchar (more likely Gonch) may end up getting traded for a decent winger.

Sorry I have to agree, Eli did not desrve the MVP. I would give serious consideration to Spanoula Most Valuable Personal.. Seriously the Giants defense won that game not Eli.

Loki you mean the same thing that Moss has done all year. Sorry I though that was one of the best officiating jobs all I have seen in a Super Bowl. Never saw the phantom penalty you are refferring to.

I have to agree. Eli did not deserve the MVP of that game. Did he play a decent game yes but that defense won the game for them.

Is he relatively new here? I just come to hopefully discuss some sports topics. All that BS kinda ruins it.
Posted Friday December 14, 2007, About: Will Jerry replace Cowboys coach?
Why is when I read this sight in the morning before work the conversations are at least centered around the topic at hand but by the time I return home they have devolved into this............

That being said I am now going to contribute to the drivel. For anyone that enjoys a stout there is a brew pub in State College PA called Otto's that makes a Coffee Stout that is killer.

Now I would really like to know what the rumour mill has brewing in Dallas. Has there been any mention locally of Garrett leaving?
Posted Friday December 14, 2007, About: Will Jerry replace Cowboys coach?
Burgh, Shotty was canned because of his horrible track record in the playoffs. Who cares what your record is, if you can't perform in the playoffs....SEE YA!!

Hooah!05 | 12/14/07

All I am saying is that it would not surprise me to see it happen. To keep Garrett Jones may have to pay him a sum of money comparable to that of a head coach. I would guess that Phillips could see the writing on the wall if that happens.
Posted Friday December 14, 2007, About: Will Jerry replace Cowboys coach?
Bigdog my point is merely that any crazy thing can happen in the NFL. Shotty led a team of very talented players to a great record which regardless of the situation would lend someone to believe they have a high level of job security.
If Jerry feels that Garrett is the future head coach of this team would he really allow him to walk away? Plus I was always under the impression that Wade was brought with the understanding that he was there to ease the transition to Garrett.
Posted Friday December 14, 2007, About: Vick's failed leniency letter
I am curious.....if he was not the "salvation" for that football team would the mayor really have written a letter. Did those people write letters for the others implicated in the dog fighting ring?
I would venture to guess that the mayor of Atlanta could spend her time with more positve ventures.
Posted Friday December 14, 2007, About: Will Jerry replace Cowboys coach?
I've never heard of a coach with a 12-1 record being in jeopardy of losing his job.

Ummmmm........San Diego 2006??????

At this point nothing would ever surprise me from Jerry Jones. Before Phillips was named coach last year the rumor was that Garret was being hired to be groomed for the head coaching job. The trend in the NFL lately is to hire young guns to be ehad coaches. Garrett fits this bill and has done a great job with that O this year. If it came down to losing him vs making the switch I think it would be an easy decision for Jones.
Posted Wednesday December 12, 2007, About: Falcons star rips fleeing Petrino
How can anyone blame Hall for his comments? I have to imagine that Petrino has been preaching the "never quit" mantra to his players for the majority of the year. To walk out on a team and a contract speaks volumes about the kind of person that he is and I do not blame any player for feeling slighted.
Posted Wednesday December 12, 2007, About: Petrino angers Falcons owner
Why would anyone want to play for him again, at the college level or professional? Just knowing that he was able to quit on one team and walk out in the middle of the season lends to his lack of integrity. Not sure that I would want my son playing football for someone like that especially in college where the coach should have a huge influence over their lives.
