Doubront was cruising last night. Best game he's ever pitched, only 93 pitches through 8 innings, 0 walks 6 K's. So why do you bring in a struggling closer in that situation?
He was great until the injury, but then again he always seems to be great until an injury. Odds are after the ankle heals up, something else will pop up.
Boston has enough depth in their pitching staff to cover Buchholz missing a start or 2. They brought up Alfredo Aceves from AAA Pawtucket to make an emergency start last night and still beat the Rays 2-1. But Lester's struggles are starting to be a concern.
I have to disagree. IMO, it's the D Backs who over-reacted. They should have known Greinke had to protect the kid after Kennedy drilled him in the face. And Greinke to his credit did it the right way by hitting Montero in the back below the shoulders. That should have been the end of it right there.
But Gibson couldn't let it go, and ordered Kennedy to hit Greinke. Kennedy throwing at the head should earn him a long suspension IMO.
although a 3 foot wide strike zone doesn't hurt.
sorry Mondo.
