i'm not gonna worry about it, cause i don't believe bud selig will ever actually do anything about it anyway.

for that matter, i dunno why you even need divisions in the first place. why not just have a 30-team league and the top eight teams go to the playoffs? i'm not saying that's what i want, just asking why that's less "fair" than any of these other schemes.

but the thing is ... no matter what arrangement you come up with, there are gonna be people who complain that it's not "fair".

how do you "buy" a championship? every year, there are teams in the playoffs and World Series with low payrolls. oftentimes, they win it. and if you remember, the Yankees won 20+ of their championships before the free agency era. did they "buy" those, too?

the teams that win championships are the ones whose players had the best overall season and who came together at the right time. they're not necessarily the ones who had the highest payroll.

maybe, maybe not. the problem with calling someone "the best" at anything is that it's open to interpretation. the significance of this Cy Young vote is that Hernandez was voted in based on what he shoulda/coulda done ... that is, win ballgames ... instead of what he did do.

i'm not saying you shouldn't consider those factors. but the object of the game is still to win and not just have a great WHIP.

would you rather pitch a two-hitter and strike out 15 batters and lose 1-0, or give up 10 hits, walk 8 batters, and win 12-10? i get the argument that in the first case you're a better pitcher and if you kept that up you'd be more deserving of the Cy Young.

but 13 wins, when there are 20-game winners in the league that year???

i like how they decided that Felix Hernandez' 13-12 record wasn't his fault. i think they should take that idea further, however, and realize that the Mariners' 61-101 record wasn't their fault, either. they had really terrible luck all year, and it's not fair that they should penalized for it.

the writers should vote them into the World Series (well, it's too late now, i guess).

this whole thing reminds me of the controversy over pitchers throwing at hitters. yeah, it takes a big man to stand 60 feet away and throw a hard object at somebody. or submarine a receiver when his head is turned the other way.

just play the game and play it right. anybody who intentionally tries to hurt somebody else should be thrown out of the sport, period.
