Yes, they are called "criminals", I've never encountered a single person who doesn't think that the convicted Enron execs are "criminals". Maybe they aren't called "thugs", because "thug" suggests some kind of brutish violence, and the Enron execs did not engage in brutish violence. Yes, they defrauded folks, but they weren't breaking kneecaps and threatening violence. White-collar crime is perceived differently because it IS different from the thuggish violence. It's not better or excuseable, but it is different.

jackpotgeo,

Not sure what my post had to do with your point. Bottom line: the law states that carrying an unregistered gun in NY calls for a 3 and half year prison sentence. Bloomberg didn't make this law up on the spot when Plax got arrested. He didn't get on a "political pulpit" and invent a new crime and think up a jail sentence on the spot just to stick it to Plax. He made statements to the effect that Plax would not be exempt just b/c he's a celebrity - that's called equality under the law. Once again, it is backasswards reasoning to think that just because someone does not get a special exemption from a law that applies to everyone, he is being "made an example". It's quite the opposite - he's being treated just the way the law says he should be treated.

"If he wasn't a celebrity" he wouldn't be a multi-millionaire playing night-club gangsta to begin with - he'd be sitting in an empty parking lot throwing pennies at the curb. I love how these donkey celebrities and their enablers think they should have a right to reap all the benefits of being a celebrity, but bear none of the burdens.

I'd like to know what the idiot was doing with a loaded/concealed gun to begin with. Personal protection? So if someone confronts him on the street with a weapon and demands his wallet, what is he gonna do? Quick-draw his gun and have a shoot-out? If you want personal protection, hire a body guard. Idiot watches too many gangsta movies...

Another wonderfully ignorant post for our collection. He's not being punished for who he shot, he's being punished under a gun registration law. Yes, there are people killing other people in the city - using guns that aren't registered, hence the gun registration law, which applies to EVERYONE. It doesn't include an exemption for nincompoop football players who only shoot themselves. And you gotta love the backasswards reasoning of someone who says "They are making an example of him", when all they did was charge him under the plain language of the law.

This is one of the most ignorant series of comments on the topic. "Feds"??? Plax was charged under NY state law. "2nd Amendment"??? Have you even read the Bill of Rights??? Do you even know what the DC gun case was about?? You have no frickin idea what you are talking about...
Posted Saturday August 22, 2009, About: GM: Plaxico's NFL career is over
It doesn't add up to you, because you don't seem to understand why he is going to jail. He wasn't charged for having a "diva attitude", he was charged for breaking a gun law.

I'm not a Sox fan or very much of a baseball fan; but I find it pretty funny to see how the PED scenarios make fans go crazy. If he does not produce, then he must have been on PEDs - how else do you explanation the dip in production? If he does produce, then he's probably on PEDs - how else do you explain his great production?

"People close to the QB said it wasn't so much about money - but about security." Yeah...if poor old McNabb gets cut and put out on the street, how's the man gonna feed his kids and make a living in this economy?

T.H. has broken ACC records b/c he stayed all 4 years on some great teams. The ACC has also been a relatively weak big-man conference recently. If you want to get a sense of how he will do in the pros, just queue up the Oklahoma game and see how he fared when a legit top-flight NBA-caliber power forward was on the floor playing against him.

Ha. It's funny seeing all the whiny Criminoles come out and pout.

And by the way, just b/c other schools may also be doing it, does not mean FSU should get off the hook. Accusing other schools of guilt does not manufacture innocence for FSU - oh, well I guess they don't teach Logic courses in Tallahassee
Posted Monday February 16, 2009, About: Did Milan lowball Beckham bid?
Milan offered $3mill b/c Becks is a flash-in-the-pan right now. He's gonna put in a good effort for a few months to make the WC squad and he'll grab a few headlines along the way. But to think that Milan NEED a guy like Becks beyond this year (or even this year) is ridiculous. Once his form dips, he's gonna get parked on the bench next to all the other 30-somethings that Milan has collected over the years.
Posted Saturday February 14, 2009, About: Galaxy: Beckham will play in L.A.
Milan misplayed their hand or they really don't want Becks as bad as they claim. The deadline is not a "tactic". Galaxy/MLS need to sell season-tix, organize TV schedules and team appearances. Fans, organizers and sponsors need to know if Becks is in or out. This is about alot more than just playing "hardball" for a few more million euro.
Posted Friday February 06, 2009, About: Beckham: I'll take pay cut for Milan
Becks could play for free and he'd still have more $$ than anyone in Serie A. The sad part is that once he dips in form, Ancelotti is gonna park his butt right on the bench with the rest of the 30-somethings they've collected.

Thank you. I never feel bad for any of these pirate-premiereship clubs. Let them all go bankrupt and ruin the EPL as far as I'm concerned. So much of the trouble with modern football can be traced to the activites of EPL. Whether it is poaching young foreign players, or the financial policies of clubs who overspend with the hopes of getting bought out by billionaires, or throwing competitive balance into haywire with ridiculous transfer fees/wages.

"Breaking News!

Bigtime Club A has reportedly targeted BigTime Club B's number 1 superstar! Bigtime Club A is willing to dole out mega cash to make the deal happen. BigTime Club B's superstar is reportedly open to the transfer as it has always been BigTime Club B superstar's ambition to play for BigTime Club A. With the cash raked in from the deal, BigTime Club B is targeting BigTime Club C or BigTime Club D's superstars...stay tuned!"

Check it out...with baseless story-baiting skills like that, I could now write for Marca, Goal.com, Il Messagero, and every other soccer tabloid in the world.

The Pats...where really old linebackers go to die...

..or at least get forced to play with concussions and then have to retire with mild brain damage...

unless of course they do HGH and tape other people's practices this way they have an advantage and can prepare accordingly...

This should be filed firmly under the "Rumors" section. This is the kind of crap reporting you get when the Chicago Tribune tries to wiegh in on teams and players from other cities. Whoever floated this junk hasn't got a clue about how the Wizards value Caron; unless LA plans on coughing up Kobe or maybe Andrew Bynum and a 1st; there's no way the Wiz even listen to an offer.
