Posted Friday December 13, 2013, About: Yeo rips 'embarrassing' Sharks tactic
I went back and looked at the penalty he is talking about. Stuart got hit with a high stick.

The penalty he should have complained about was the 4 minute minor that got called. The Sharks player was hit by the stick of one of his team mates and not by the stick of a Wild player. Sharks scored to make it 3-0 on the power play.

Funny how Yeo didn't mention Parise getting away with a blatant slew foot in the game.
Posted Friday April 19, 2013, About: Do the Sharks need home ice to win the Stanley Cup?
This author obviously doesn't follow hockey. That being said the Sharks are the best home team in the NHL this season with only 1 regulation loss. The trades of Clowe and Murray have resulted in the Sharks being a much faster team on the ice which has been their downfall in recent playoffs. Last year they got bounced in the first round because their penalty kill was atrocious (St. Louis was around 50% on the power play in the series), but this year they are one of the best PK teams in the league. Do I expect the Sharks to make the finals? Nope.
Posted Thursday February 28, 2013, About: Suspension over, Clowe still in the doghouse?
As a Sharks fan I was looking for a way to petition Shanahan to suspend him for 20 games instead of 2. Clowe has been terrible all year. He is one of the slowest skaters in the NHL. I described him as "Ryan Clowe - the stick where an offensive rush goes to die".
Posted Wednesday November 07, 2012, About: NBC driving NHL labor talks?
How much sway does NBC have? Considering NBC is owned by Comcast which is owned by Ed Snyder the owner of the Flyers I seriously doubt NBC is putting much pressure on the owners. Don't forget that one of the reasons the owners were emboldened on this was NBC's decision to continue to pay the NHL under this contract even during the lockout.
Posted Monday April 16, 2012, About: Sharks making lineup changes after fight fest
The Sharks earned a split on the road and now have home ice advantage. This series is far from over. Game 3 will be huge.
Posted Monday April 16, 2012, About: Sharks making lineup changes after fight fest
I think Drew Doughty would disagree. Thornton has been challenging Backes to a fight each game of the series.
Posted Friday April 06, 2012, About: Ryane Clowe gets away with cheating
Clowe should have gotten a penalty on the play but somehow the refs didn't see it. From what I am reading this is something the linesman cannot call so the 2 officials missed this which isn't surprising because it was a terribly officiated game.

From listening to some of the Kings fans you would think Stoll was on a breakaway to an empty net. It would have been a 3 on 2 so this didn't directly cost them a goal it cost them a scoring chance. The Kings blew this game by giving away a 3-1 lead not by Clowe's play. As for Doughty's comments he should probably keep quiet since he got his ass handed to him by Joe Thornton in the first period.
Posted Thursday March 15, 2012, About: Trade responsible for Sharks skid?
The problem hasn't been Thornton and Marleau lately. The problem with the Sharks has been the secondary scoring has been non-existent that in addition to the fact that the goal tending of Niemi lately has been horrible have led to the slide. Niemi's numbers are a little misleading because he isn't giving up a lot of goals each game but the ones he is giving up are usually soft goals that a top goalie in the league just has to stop.
Posted Tuesday March 06, 2012, About: Thornton facing greatest challenge yet
I think a blowup is coming but not sure how much they can do. Thornton, Marleau, Boyle, and Handzus all have no trade clauses (how Handzus got one I have no idea). I was happy to see that Doug Wilson wouldn't budge on trading Couture for Nash. They need to look to the future and build around Couture and Pavelski. They have very little in the way of prospects in their system right now. One evaluation had them dead last in the league. The Sharks are looking at a bad couple of years down the road.
Posted Wednesday February 29, 2012, About: Briere demoted, promoted all in one game
Oh just to make Cromster even happier the league looked at the hit. No hearing, no suspension, no fine. I also find it a bit curious that Briere was so traumatically hurt that after lying on the ice for an extended period of time he never went to the locker room and didn't even miss a shift.
Posted Wednesday February 29, 2012, About: Briere demoted, promoted all in one game
There were several missed calls in that game on both sides. This is to be expected when Mike Leggo is the head ref. He doesn't call anything. Much like he didn't call Coburn for the knee on knee hit on Galiardi or the head shot on Galiardi from another player earlier in the game.
Posted Wednesday February 29, 2012, About: Briere demoted, promoted all in one game
Vlasic's comment on the hit:

"He stopped right into me, and my momentum carried me forward," Vlasic said. "The ref told me that he saw it that way. I'm going there to get the puck, he turned into me and he got the worst of it."
Posted Wednesday February 29, 2012, About: Briere demoted, promoted all in one game
I watched the game. I would be highly surprised if a suspension resulted from the hit. Briere put himself in a very dangerous condition and Vlasic had no time to react. Both guys going for the puck in the corner and Briere decides to stop about 4-5 feet short of the boards and brace himself into Vlasic. Since Briere is 3 feet tall he lost the collision and ended up going head first into the boards.
Posted Friday January 27, 2012, About: Heatley's legal battle may cost Sharks $4M
True the Aunt Jemimah and Mrs. Butterworth endorsements and advertising on the boards would more than make up the difference in payroll.
Posted Friday January 27, 2012, About: Heatley's legal battle may cost Sharks $4M
No way the Sharks get stuck for the $4 million. It's not their fault that clause existed in the contract or Heatley refused to go to Edmonton. What nobody seems to be talking about is now that Michalek has become the leading goal scorer for the Sens is that the Sens actually are better off for not having the Oiler trade go through. Would they rather have Cogliano, Ladislav Smid and Dustin Penner with a total payroll of 8.04 million or Michalek at 4.3?
Posted Thursday September 29, 2011, About: Roster may sink Sharks plans
Mark Purdy only chimes in occasional articles on the Sharks. He shows how much he pays attention when he talks about last years 4th line for the Sharks who were ineffective and disappeared in the playoffs. The big problems for the Sharks last year were Boyle playing too many minutes during the season (led the NHL in minutes played) and Thornton and Marleau having to burn too many minutes on the penalty kill. Both of those issues have been addressed.
Posted Friday September 23, 2011, About: Sharks to look at Turco?
Niemi is not out for 12 weeks like this claims. It is Niitimaki that is out for that long. Niemi had surgery to remove a cyst which has him out right now but he is skating and they expect him to be ready at or near the start of the season. No reason to go get Turco especially since the Sharks don't have alot of empty contract slots to use right now.
Posted Thursday July 07, 2011, About: Re-signing Doughty 'could take a while'
Be warned Kings fans that Lombardi has a history of problems with signing RFA's. When he was the Sharks GM he had a serious problem with signing Nabokov when he was an RFA and didn't get him signed until 20 games into the season. It basically screwed the Sharks that season. I expect him to do the same here.
Posted Tuesday July 05, 2011, About: Havlat-Heatley a disgruntled flip
Havlat only missed 14 games the last 3 years combined so the injury thing hasn't been an issue lately. As for Heatley his game has dropped off a ton in the last 2 years and 2 years in a row he has been silent in the playoffs. His skating is absolutely terrible. His posture when he skates is alot more upright then it used to be and as a result his scoring touch seems to have left him. Good luck in Minnesota.
Posted Tuesday February 08, 2011, About: No help coming to San Jose
They are 7-0-1 in their last 8. They keep up this pace and they will have a top 3 spot in the playoffs.
Posted Tuesday February 08, 2011, About: No help coming to San Jose
Checked the standings lately? They are sitting in 6th in the conference (win tonight and they are in 4th) and only 3 points out of first in the Pacific Division. They have gone 7-0-1 in their last 8 games.
