I would say that in Pete's case, it's hard to ignore the accomplishment of 4,256 hits and the other things he did to beat you his entire career. As a life-long Cub fan (please, it's a sickness) I know I just hated to see him at the plate in a game-changing situation. He was gonna get you most of the time. IMHO I say he should be recognized in the Hall of Fame in some way for his accomplishments, but otherwise still banned from baseball. He knew the rules and took the chance and you have to pay the price for your actions. Lying for years certainly doesn't help his case.
