Why would QB's, Kickers, and Punters be excluded??? Would they not want an edge, would they not want to be stronger, would they not look for something to help accelerate the healing process???

Agreed, is there any reason why he should have even been in at that point, or even most of the other regulars???

If you want to ban base runners from barreling down catchers then you also have to ban catchers from blocking the plate.

I truly hope Manual was simply abbrev. objective. Otherwise, according to Manual they come to the park every day to get an object....

For a team that may have little chance of making any serious run at the playoffs for the coming year(s), this is when you would try to get the most value for him (assuming of course he comes back healthy first). Oh wait, your strategy of awaiting until he is 2-3 years older is the smart move to really maximize what you could get in return (I guess your user name misses the mark ;-) )

His WHIP for the last three years has been the highest since 2002. His BBs per IP has been higher each year with the Mets since 2003. His K's per IP has been at the lowest for the 3 years with the Mets since 2001. His fastballs hovers around 88-89 vs 92-94 with the Twins. He has also had some of his worst/shortest outings with the Mets. Once again, not saying the guy is a bust, by no means is that true. But I don't see where he has been the same dominant pitcher as with the Twins, especially since he still has 3 more years on his contract

Thanks for reinforcing the bigger idiot theory ;-)

I do agree with you, looking at the context of his contract (years) and his health issues, that is where the biggest concern is. From watching him pitch the past three seasons you never knew which Johan would show up. He definitely had some dominant outings but also had some of the worst outings in his career. If he can come back healthy and restore some value you may find a team trying to make a playoff push willing to trade for value (although the Mets may have to eat some of the contract)

way to support your case....yawn...

Yup, well considering that out of his three years he did not finish two of them for the Mets due to injuries. For a guy who with the twins was an absolute work horse in the 2nd half of the season and dominant he just never reached that high level with the Mets. Granted it became irrelevant for the Mets with their lack of post season but had they been in contention Santana would have been nowhere to be found. Once again, not saying this guy was a bust, but he was not the same guy as he was with the twins (as dictated by his significant drop in mph and strikeouts and increase in WHIP over the last three years) and not reliable to finish the year strong (which for any sort of playoff push is what matters). I would gladly take him over any of the Mets current starters, but considering they gave him 6 yrs at ridiculous money you have to worry with the remaining years of his contract. And yes, numbers don't always tell the entire story, especially in baseball.

Nice try idiot. The point is they signed him to a long term deal, and he is clearly not the dominating pitcher he was when he was with the Twins (so yes he is on the downside of his career). Doesn't mean he is a bust, just not the pitcher he was with the Twins. Given the fact that he can't go an off season without surgery only supports the fact that the Mets should trade him now while his value is still high (since it is highly unlikely they will be competing for a World Series this year or next).

I can't blame your angry response, I guess when your Mom finally lets you out of the basement you have to take out your frustration somewhere ;-)

Completely agree. The Mets signed Santana on the downside of his career, and the longer they wait to trade him the less value he will have.
