Thompson's call was iconic, then again so was Cosell's. I think the argument that Baseball was the #1,#2,#3 sport in the nation at the time works against MrSoloDolo. If he wants to consider elements other than the call itself, then the fact that baseball was the only major professional sport at the time taints it's impact on the sports world. Cosell's call was made at a time when Boxing, particularly the Heavyweights had captured the attention of the country's sports fans despite the competition of MLB, the NBA and the NFL. In the context of the golden era of Heavyweights, Cosell's call put his indelible stamp on one of the great moments in sports history!
