Posted Sunday June 15, 2008, About: Malkin on thin ice in Pittsburgh?
Even if Malkin is more valuable because he's a center as opposed to a winger, Hossa may be more valuable for a Cup run in the very near future because then you have Crosby-Hossa on your top line, like having Datsyuk and Zetterberg (especially once you throw in Dupuis). And look where that line leaves the Red Wings.
Posted Monday June 02, 2008, About: Agent: Fedorov seeks Caps return
Fedorov has said he wants to play with his brother in Russia sometime, right? I guess then he'll settle to play in Washington for about 2 years, 2 million per, then finish his hockey career in Russia.
Posted Saturday May 17, 2008, About: Columnist: Turco better than Osgood
Turco is not a better pure goalie...but because he plays the puck well, you could say he is better to have than Osgood.
Posted Sunday May 11, 2008, About: Stars-Red Wings postgame incident
Well Osgood saw Ribeiro coming and purposely lifed his stick so the shaft went into Ribeiro's face.
Posted Friday May 09, 2008, About: Capitals want to keep Fedorov
I think that if he asks for more than 2.5 million or so, they won't resign him.
Posted Thursday May 08, 2008, About: Capitals want to keep Fedorov
I would be surprised if anyone (besides Evgeni Malkin) wouldn't want to play with Ovechkin. And Backstrom is a #1 center, it's just that he was not comfortable in teh playoffs. The Caps' center situation will certainly be interesting next season, with 4 guys over 50% and 3 in the top 15 out of 5 centers (odd one out--Backstrom).
Posted Wednesday May 07, 2008, About: Agent: Huet to talk to Caps first
Johnson was better than Olie this season. Probably time for Olie to retire.
Posted Wednesday May 07, 2008, About: Agent: Huet to talk to Caps first
Kolzig is an FA this offseason, I think. So that leaves Huet and Johnson. Huet you would think would want to resign because he'd almost surely win the Stanley Cup within 4 years.
Posted Tuesday May 06, 2008, About: Rangers may bid on Hossa
Rangers should trade Gomez (salary too high) and start rebuilding around Lundqvist, like NJD did with Brodeur. Drury can be their Elias. And what did NJD get, like 3 Stanley Cups?
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Would Jagr return to Pittsburgh?
It's not as if any semi-decent team can afford him.
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Why do people hate Flyers?
The refs need to be consistent!
Posted Wednesday April 30, 2008, About: Why do people hate Flyers?
I don't think people hate the Flyers because of anything besides the fact that they are so annoying to play against. They make the game more dramatic than the opponents' fans would like.

About the penalties, aren't the Flyers the most penalized playoff team this year? And weren't they ranked like 3rd most PIMS/game (about 16 I think)? (btw Washington had 11 PIMS/game, so the refs think that the Caps are less likely to take a penalty, whereas they think Flyers do a lot of deservedly penalized plays. I dunno about Montreal though)
Posted Friday April 25, 2008, About: Kolzig strips name off Caps locker
Well Brent Johnson played pretty well as a backup...

Although the thing Olie has is being ginormous in net and being able to push away attackers to dive onto a loose puck.
Posted Friday April 25, 2008, About: Kolzig strips name off Caps locker
I guess he really decided it was time to retire or move on from the Caps franchise. This past season was his worst, statistically, ever. I really think that he would have gotten more starts if Huet hadn't been so good.
Well now everyone's complements of Olie being "classy" and understanding that sports is "business" have been thrown out the door...
Posted Thursday April 24, 2008, About: Caps top postseason priority is...
I think that rather, the Caps didn't get it going until game 4 or 5. They were jittery and nervous for the first 3 or four games, and that never helps.

Sorry--Schultz
Posted Wednesday April 23, 2008, About: Caps top postseason priority is...
Priority A: Sign Huet
Priority B: Sign Mike Green
Priority C: Sign Fedorov and everyone else who needs a new contract and who's not a long time vet like Kolzig
Priority D: Bring the roster down to two goalies
Priority E: Trade Milan Jurcina and/or Tom Poti to make space for Alzhner and Eminger and Shultz all in the same night.
Posted Wednesday April 23, 2008, About: Caps top postseason priority is...
Kozlov just never got it going in playoffs. But he adds a lot of depth, especially to the power play (on 2nd unit).

joec:
I think Backstrom/Fedorov have great chemistry with Ovechkin. The Caps score so many goals when OV rips a shot of a clean faceoff win, and that's what Fedorov brings. Plus, Nylander and Clark will come back, as well as Pothier. And next season defencemen Karl Alzhner is coming! (captained Canada to WJC win; the only other current Cap to win WJC was #8)

Luckily Washington has lots of cap room...
Posted Wednesday April 23, 2008, About: Caps top postseason priority is...
Caps don't really need much. They'd like to keep Huet, Cooke, and Fedorov, but they pretty much have all the rest of the parts in place. The missing ingredient was experience, and now that that's there, watch out. Anyways, kudos to Flyers.
