Posted Saturday May 16, 2009, About: Ducks GM in press box incident
I'm not a Ducks fan, and I know that lots of people hate them, but there are two things here. One, the guy is a GM of a sports franchise, so getting upset when his team loses is understandable. I'm an Avalanche fan, I'd love to see one of our boring front office people show some signs of life. Second, while I absolutley don't condone throwing a stool at her, you don't ever, ever, ever cheer in the press box. That is such a no-no its not even funny. I know this sounds like blaming the victim, but if she was cheering in the press box, she should be fired immediately, or at the very least not be allowed to work live games. I know this sounds harsh to a lot of you , especially since this gives you a chance to bash the Ducks (understandable) but I don't think you all realize how big of a thing that is. And, she's the one who said she was cheering on the Wings, not him, so she admits it. Again, I know this sounds harsh, but you just don't cheer in the press box. Most sports reporters have some kind of blog these days, email whomever covers your team and ask what they think about cheering in the press box, a very big no-no.
Posted Monday July 14, 2008, About: Favre's possible Green Bay exit strategy
That's crap, if the Pack had made "real attempts" to get Favre back, he'd be back. Not saying Brett couldn't have done some things different, but Ted Thompson has acted like a stuborn six year old girl with this issue.

Do all of you people really think that if Favre had held a news conference to talk about coming back, that no one whould have showed up? People keep complaining about what Favre has "done". What has he really done? He's kept fairely quiet and tried to work things out with the Pack behind the scenes. He didn't put the Pack in a bad place by announcing to the world, before telling the Pack, that he wanted to play. That would have put the Packers in even a stranger situation.

Look, the Packers are saying that Brett wanted to come back in March, then changed his mind. The Packers have stated (or at least the coach has stated) that he was in contact for weeks with Favre before this became public, and that Favre had stated his desire to play during those calls. My point is, just how is it that the Packers organization is acting like they've been caught off gaurd by this? And these comments, "well we took him at his word when he said he wanted to retire." Are you kiding me?

Yes, again, Favre could have done some things differently. But, taking Favre's possible return out of this - how can Packers' fans feel good about the leadership of the organization when they botch the handling of this so bad. Even casual fans "knew" that there was a good chance of Favre wanting to come back. For the Packers not to have a plan in place to handle the situation makes them look like foolish. Remember the Packer's web site gaff, when a page stating Favre's retirement was put on the web site, before his announcement? Well, why didn't they have a statement prepared in case Favre stated he wanted to come back? By being all secretive and not making any statements for over a week, the Packers organization made this situation much worse that it needed to be.

Just a couple comments on the so called "article."

First off - how do you consider going from $850,000 to 1.2mil. "a hefty raise?" At less than 50%, $350,000 is not a hefty raise, when put in the context of pro-sports salaries. Jeff Finger got a hefty raise.

Second - my condolences to Canes fans; if a 1.2 mil. contract "puts additional pressure . . . to shed salary," you've got problems. With the contracts flying around these days, for 1.2 to be a problem is almost unreal.
Posted Sunday November 11, 2007, About: NHL execs consider bigger nets
There are so many other little tweaks that should be done first before doing something this drastic. Bret Hull had a good comment (I actually feel strange saying that) a while back. Drop the limit on curved sticks. Goalies are protected well enoght these days, and adding a few more MPH to shots might get a few extra goals here or there without changing the game, or the look of the game in a big way. If you're worried about some players putting some crazy huge curve on their stick, don't, that would make passing very difficult, and shots less accurate, so there's a built in limit to whtat players can do. Personally, I don't need six or seven goals a game to be entertained, but if the league is going to make changes, I'd rather see 6-8 small ones than one big mistake in enlarging the nets.
Posted Tuesday October 23, 2007, About: Jagr, Gomez disagree on NYR woes
All you really need to know about these two is that they're line mates, but their stalls are on opposite sides of the dressing room. Normally you want linemates sitting at least near, if not next to, each other before games and during intermissions so they can talk about what's happening. That's not a good sign.
Posted Sunday October 21, 2007, About: Why Thrashers fired Hartley
If this is the case, Thrashers fans should be furious with ownership. Now, not only is the team starting out poorly, but they have to go through a change in coaching systems during a season. Not to say that's never worked, but it's far from the ideal setup. Waddell's job may be on the line now, but he can partially thank ownership for that. If they weren't going to let Waddell make the calls then, they should have fire HIM then.
Posted Sunday October 21, 2007, About: Upper hand on Forsberg's future
OK, first off, this is old news. They met with Foppa what, last weekend? And it's already been in T&R. Second, if you read the article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, it ends with, "the Flyers still have the upper hand. And if the team keeps winning, that likely won't change." I'd love to know just exactly why they think that is. Nice for a paper to push for the hometown team, but while Philly may be in the mix, I don't see how they think they "have the upper hand."
Posted Monday August 27, 2007, About: Predators in market for forward?
Any chance Alexander Radulov can be converted to center? He was great in the minors last year and showed a few flashes with the Preds. If he can be converted it would be a great move, providing they can find someone to take his place on the wing.
Posted Sunday August 26, 2007, About: How will Penguins lines mesh?
Hey ZeroSK1 - awsome idea. And if it is settled by Rock, Paper, Scissors, ESPN can cover it like it's actually a sport!
Posted Sunday August 26, 2007, About: Sabres, Pens next to play outdoors
Personally, I'd like to see two outdoor games. One in Canada, one in the US. Each game between a Canadian and American team, that might bring in more fans from each country.
Posted Sunday August 26, 2007, About: Changes for NHL goal judges
I know you all think goal judges are a joke, but think of all the goals scored on rushes that the refs don't get back in time for. If they move the goal judges you can expect 10 to 15 replay reviews a game, which will slow the games down quite a bit. Personally, I think this is a terrible idea. This is one of those moves that sounds good until you put it into action and actually see what the affect is.

Um, if it's a done deal, why is this in the "Truth & Rumors" section?
Posted Wednesday August 22, 2007, About: Ducks stars leaning toward retirement
Isn't Sellane a free agent? (I suppose I should have looked before posting this.) I don't understand why the talk always makes it seem like he's either going back to the Ducks or retiring. Sellane was the most outspoken Av player when Bertuzzi ended Steve Moore's career. I can't believe the Ducks adding Brad May during last season and Bert during the off season would make him want to play for the Ducks again, Cup withstanding.
Posted Wednesday August 22, 2007, About: Modano to marry 'Dancing' star
Yo Pops, I didn't say the picture above, I said if you take the link from the paper, you know the light blue thing "Fort Worth Star-Telegram". I may not have followed Hull's career, but, IF YOU TAKE THE LINK, that sure looks like him. You wanna give me crap, at least read what I said. P.S. - Sorry for the double post, had just signed up and didn't think the original post went through.
Posted Monday August 20, 2007, About: Modano to marry 'Dancing' star
My favorite part is, if you take the link to the local paper's article, instead of a pic of Modano and his future wife, there a pic of Modano and Brett Hull. Kind of makes you wonder?!
Posted Monday August 20, 2007, About: Modano to marry 'Dancing' star
I think the great part here is the link to the local paper's article. Instead of showing a picture of Mike and his future wife, it's a picture of him and Brett Hull. Makes you wonder!!!
