Barry Zito got 18 million per year, and he is a bum.

Clemens got a pro-rated $25 million per year deal.

Santana is better than either of these guys. Santana will sign for $20 million per year, unless he takes a serious "home-team" discount to play for Boston. And even then, I imagine they give him at least Zito's 18 million a year.

No one really has a better package to offer, so the Twins will take what they can get from the Sox, and that means they'll take Lester, Buchholz, and Crisp.

And I don't care what anyone says, that price is not too steep. Prospects are prospects. At best, they can only hope to be as good as Santana some day. You take the sure thing over prospects.

The Sox traded two "untouchable" prospects for Pedro once upon a time, and neither prospect turned out to be any good, if any one remembers.

People get forgetting that the Twins are losing Hunter, and need a CF. What other team can offer two young stud pitchers and a CF for Santana?

The Twins ask for Ellsbury, Lester and Buchholz at once, and they keep Santana in the off-season, and then trade him at the deadline next year, taking Crisp, Lester and Buchholz.

Check Varitek's pants. Just be prepared for what you find.
Posted Monday November 12, 2007, About: Red Sox, Lowell testing deadline
If you don't sign Lowell, you have to give up Lester and Crisp at the very least to get Cabrerra, and the Marlins are asking more like Buchholtz, Lester and Ellsbury, but that isn't happening.

Either you save the coin and get a guy like Crede, but Lowell was a World Series MVP, and I think the Sox need to keep this nucleus as opposed to post-2004.

Who would the Sox trade to get him? Would Baltimore take Crisp and Lugo?

And Crisp may be the linchpin to getting Santana, since the Twins need a replacement pitcher, and a new CF.
Posted Wednesday November 07, 2007, About: Poll: Players most likely to be traded
Boston is so interesting right now. With Schill and Wakefield coming back, they could afford to trade away guys like Buchholtz and/or Lester, and they have Crisp to trade as well. The Twins need a replacement for Hunter, and may need a replacement for Santana, who will leave after next year as a free agent, so they have to take a trade. The Sox can offer a good CF and two quality stud pitchers. Who else can? At the same time, The Sox could go after Cabrera instead and likely keep Lester. Or they could stand pat with a very impressive team that won the title with the biggest beatdown in MLB playoff history. If you have a chance to get even better next year by signing Cabrera or Santana by lose real young studs like Lester and Buchholtz, would you do it? Or do you look towards the long term future? Those are tough calls.
