Frankly, VT will do what is right when it is needed to be done (after due process, and a sentence). Because nothing has been done immediately does not mean the school condones animal cruelty. It did the same by kicking Marcus Vick out of the school during the 04 season (school rules for marijuana give 1 chance after 1 semester suspension), and then for good after 2005. Name one other school that would kick off its BIG NAME, STAR PLAYER going into a national-title run season--on its own terms, outside of NCAA pressure (Bomar doesn't count). Name one. Bowden surely wouldn't. Maybe a small guy, but the big names can keep shoplifting. And as for the SEC? HA.
Secondly, Vick is not "the face of Virgina Tech". I am--a spring 2007 graduate of VT. Vick is tremendously talented athlete. He was a star QB during his time at VT who once led the team to a National Title game appearance. Greater athletes will come. He is only the face of my school for those of you who see him as that. He also is tremendously foolish to squander such excellent talent on something so heartless. He is a dropout of tech who left for the NFL early. Then came his mistakes. They have nothing to do with my university, nothing to do with Coach Beamer, and nothing to do with the past history of Virginia Tech football. Leave it alone. As for the "flag", it is actually a banner that hangs alongside other greats of VT in the north end zone of the stadium. We won't know if it was removed until the first game, and Frankly (no pun intended) I doubt Beamer really concerns himself with decorative issues of Lane Stadium. The portrait is at the entrance to "Michael Vick Hall" in the Merryman center, where athletic offices and training facilities are. If it needs to be taken down, it will be, if for moral reasons then to avoid vandalism....
And lastly---stop making any and all comparisons and references to the shootings. That is disrespectful and unrelated. To the person who compared my slain and injured classmates and friends to dogs--shame on you, you know better than that. The two situations are unrelated.
Beamer has better things to worry about than the curtains in the basketball office, or a flag at the top of the stadium.
Can anyone else say @ LSU sept 8? God help us.
VT is an outstanding institution that waits for due process. When Marcus Vick was caught and charged with possession of pot while driving, he was kicked out of the uni. for a semester. Name an SEC school who would dare kick off their STAR player. Maybe the small guys, but their big-name, star recruit QB? granted, few others given so much would squander it as he did, but thats the way it goes. The rules gave him a second chance, and he ruined that too. The school didn't hesitate once again to enforce them.
Frankly, the school has better things to worry about right now than a drop-out ex-athlete (big name or not, he never graduated) that once led the football team. And it has bigger concerns.
LSU , Sept 8, in Baton Rouge anyone? Focus on that. Leave the rest alone for the time being.
