I don't think it was just the hit on Tangradi that gave him a 9 game suspension. Tangradi was on the ground and Gillies was continuing to attack him. Then Gillies stood at the end of the runway and taunted Tangradi as he was being attended to by the medical staff.

Stuff like that has no place in the NHL.
