Posted Monday April 06, 2009, About: Hansbrough falling in draft
Unfortuantely I think this article is right on the mark. Despite now forcing kids to take at least a one year stint in the NCAA, the NBA scouts still subtley encourage the boys to make the leap as soon as possible regardless of how ready they are. Jump too early, you'll get drafted high but get cut in a few years because the team drafting you is not well equipped at developing players (as most teams with high draft picks rarely are good at developing players, else they would be in the playoffs). Leave too late, and they don't think that you'll develop any further (again, not as if they are actually going to develop the raw players any way). It really is a fine balance when it comes to the NBA. Personally I much prefer the NFL process (most players have 3 years to develop before going pro) though also appreciate the MLB process (minor leagues). The NBA basically takes the benefits of neither model, neither using their own development league like the MLB nor fully utilizing the NCAA as the NFL does.
Posted Tuesday March 10, 2009, About: Report: Kiffin tells recruit he'll be pumping gas
Well. I'm greatful for Kiffin. Since he was not intelligent enough to retain Tennesse's defensive coordinator, LSU was able to pick him up. Next year, even Mississippi State will be able to light up the score boards in Rocky Top. I just feel sorry for all the loyal Vols fans... not the Vols fans who booted Fulmer out... the Vols fans who appreciated what they had, respected Fulmer, and understood why the players carried Fulmer off the field in their final game.
Posted Friday January 30, 2009, About: LSU withdraws scholarship offer
You've only got so many scholarships, especially in basketball. If you think the kid is going to de-commit, use the scholarship elsewhere. I'd rather pull out on the #1 kid and get the #2 kid than have the #1 kid back out at the last minute leaving the #20 kid as the best thing available.

Basketball is a TEAM sport. He didn't have to commit early so if he's this willing to decommit now, just wait til a season gets rough and things don't go well. Don't expect him to be the leader to turn things around.
Posted Saturday December 13, 2008, About: Why Muschamp won't take Auburn job
Firing Tuberville will prove to be the most numbskull move Auburn has ever made. How many winning coaches have their jobs interviewed for when they haven't even been fired? Tommy made them look real silly when he went 13-0 the next season. What legit coach would deal with that circus? Auburn will not return to contending til the AD is gone b/c no coach in his right mind would take the job... especially now with Saban just down the road.
Posted Thursday November 20, 2008, About: Big 12 could get 3 BCS bids
By the way, there are too many other 1-loss teams for the voters to allow a Big 12 South rematch as the National Championship. Just like it would have been rediculous to have a OSU vs Michigan rematch in '06
Posted Thursday November 20, 2008, About: Big 12 could get 3 BCS bids
Best team from the Big 10 being first or second in the SEC? Funny cause usually to be first or second, you have to be better than or at least compete with the current champion. Ohio State couldn't hold a candle to the SEC champ the past 2 years. Penn State would be no different. (And I'd be inclined to expect that Penn State couldn't hang with a Big 12 champ either.)
Posted Tuesday September 30, 2008, About: USC tailback wants more carries
I understand the frustration. It sucks to sit on the sideline when someone else is sucking it up on the field. He got beat out while going up against his own defense, but they weren't playing USC's defense in that game. If you have 4 near equally talented running backs and #1 isn't getting the job done, go to #2 and on down the line. #3 may be able to dice Oregon State's D better than #1 or #2. That's why pro teams have platoon running backs these days and the hot ball carrier keeps getting fed. Reggie Bush may tear up Tampa Bay but Deuce McAllister shreds the 49er's. Whichever style is more effective, go with it til they adjust.
Posted Tuesday September 30, 2008, About: Tebow apologizes for Florida upset
I don't know why he's apologizing. The loss wasn't Tebow's fault. Expecting him to win the game all by himself is like expecting Yao Ming to beat the Redeem Team all by himself. Doesn't matter how good you are individually in team sports if you aren't getting contributions from others.
Posted Saturday September 06, 2008, About: USC scouting Buckeyes QBs
I hate USC but Ohio State looked pitiful today. They aren't a Top 25 team, much less a Top 5. If I was Pete Carrol, I'd be more afraid of playing Stanford than I would OSU.
Posted Sunday September 02, 2007, About: Michigan's likely scapegoat
Good example of why you should respect your opponent and prepare every week. Appalachin State's last loss was a rout by LSU in Death Valley 2 seasons ago though Appalachin State put up a much better fight than most teams that season, keeping with 3 TD's of an SEC team that went 11-2 that season. Major props to Appalachin State and if Michigan runs through the Big Ten as was expected, this may be a major embarassment for the ENTIRE conference. Michigan, however, should not be ranked again until after having beaten at least a few top 25 teams for redemption. Based on thier schedule, that may be a while from now.
