Posted Thursday August 28, 2008, About: Barca offers Xavi lifetime deal
I think "lifetime deal" may be a bit misleading. If Barca is still paying him 100k a week when he's in his 60s then they may have screwed up.
Posted Tuesday August 26, 2008, About: Is Chelsea targeting Villa?
Valencia has an incredible core of young players right now, and I'm betting they want to try and make at least one run at the league or the CL before their salaries get priced out of their range. Villa, Silva, Albiol, Maduro, Alexis, et al will almost have to be sold eventually (the offers will get ridiculous), but they're not quite in dire straights financially yet so there isn't much reason to sell.

Honestly, it seems sometimes like these writers forget that the selling clubs have an opinion on these matters. I realize it seems sometimes like Chelski can just do whatever they want, but that isn't always the case.
Posted Thursday August 21, 2008, About: Ronaldinho moving to Barcelona
Gee Ronnie, this seems like a good idea. Let's alienate yourself from the team as much as possible and continue to get fatter.

Milan is going to regret this purchase.
Posted Thursday August 21, 2008, About: Chelsea switching interest to Kaka
I'm pretty sure that Chelsea is just trying to corner the market on central midfield players. If they all play for Chelsea, then they can't play anywhere else, right?

That, or they're just trying to break Avram Grant's record set last year of 7 central midfielders on the pitch at one time.
Posted Monday August 18, 2008, About: Mizzou shakes up offensive line
Husker fan might be the single worst poster on this site. I'm not kidding.

All I've ever seen from him is stuff like this, and in every soccer TD his annoucement that 'soccer sucks' or something to that effect. I'd be embarassed if I were from Nebraska.

Also, what on earth happened to Dain Wise? Why is he playing guard? We need someone experienced at LT for the love of god.
Posted Monday August 18, 2008, About: Sunderland bids on Ferdinand
I've never really been impressed by Anton...by 23, he should have made the move to a big club if he were worth the money.

Also, Sunderland have spent A LOT of cash this offseason, and none of their new signings looked good this last weekend.
Posted Thursday August 14, 2008, About: Roma to sign Inter's Suazo
I think Baptista is pretty overrated...he's still crusing largely off of those remarkable years at Sevilla and hasn't done a whole lot since then. When he was at Arsenal in particular, he looked slow, didn't do well with the ball, and didn't seem to use his legendary STRENGTH to any real advantage.

On the other hand, 9 million euro for a guy with his youth, talent and past accomplishments isn't a terrible investment.
Posted Wednesday August 13, 2008, About: Chelsea to sign Robinho?
Why on earth would RM want to get rid of him now? I thought this was contingent on them getting Ronaldo...if they drop Robinho it seems like they'd have a pretty big hole to fill up front.
Posted Tuesday August 12, 2008, About: Berbatov close to Man U. move
I've heard a handful of options for this mysterious "new striker". I think the most interesting is sex fiend Vagner Love, who is fantastically talented but notoriously lazy...if he'd be happy at Spurs he'd be a giant hit there.

Berbatov moving might also re-open the Goran Pandev scenario, which I think would be a great one provided it happens at a reasonable price.
Posted Tuesday August 12, 2008, About: Berbatov close to Man U. move
Also, this is looking legit...it is on the front page of Soccernet right now. 28 million pounds....yikes.

Spurs also have a pretty massive kitty now assuming they're putting these funds towards new signings.
Posted Tuesday August 12, 2008, About: Berbatov close to Man U. move
This is going to set off a chain reaction of transfers that will end with Liverpool signing George Bush and Drogba being installed as president.
Posted Tuesday August 12, 2008, About: Lions eject fan heckling Williams
Again, it's not a distraction. If you are distracted from running drills because someone is yelling, than you shouldn't be playing.
Hi, I'm Troy McClure | 08/12/08, 10:10 AM

Methinks this one is a little slow. Have you ever been in a sports practice? It isn't a game situation...coaches and players have to TALK to one another more or less constantly; communicating with one another is vital to accomplishing anything, and any number of things can distract from this.

It'd hardly be noticeable in a full stadium, but in a nearly empty practice facility having one guy yelling rude things to one player is going to be distracting to the entire team. This was no time and place for heckling, and you have no business criticizing Roy for not wanting the guy there.
Posted Tuesday August 12, 2008, About: Lions eject fan heckling Williams
Wait a minute....people are criticizing the Lions for tossing this guy out of practice?

I like Roy's response...what if Roy went to the McDonalds where this guy works and just stood in front of the counter heclking him for making sloppy hamburgers?
Posted Monday August 11, 2008, About: Deportivo to off-load eight playeres
Isn't Deportivo in pretty bad shape financially right now? I know it isn't as bad as it was a few years ago, but I recall them having one of the largest debt/value ratios in Europe.

If they get a big money offer for someone, I think they're going to take it...this isn't going to be a CL side any time soon.
Posted Monday August 11, 2008, About: Deportivo to off-load eight playeres
To me Guardado looks like absolutely prime real estate...there is ALWAYS a shortage of true left wingers in England, and he is arguably in the top 5 at that position right now. The kid can fly, he has a tremendous left foot, and he's also a real whiz on the ball.

Deportivo might look to keep him this season, as his star really only started to rise last year (and then I think he missed some significant time late in the year), or maybe sell him at midseason when one of the big clubs makes a desperation purchase. I wouldn't be surprised if they put a price on him of 30 million Euro or more in any case...he's worth it in my opinion.
Posted Monday August 11, 2008, About: Ljungberg sets his MLS price
The first few comments made a lot more sense during the article's first iteration.

Also, he is just about the right age for the MLS. Heh.
Posted Monday August 11, 2008, About: Deportivo to off-load eight playeres
Ahem.

(raises hand)

Uh...yes. I'm the Liverpool representative. We will take Andres Guardado. Yes, thank you.
Posted Monday August 11, 2008, About: Ljungberg sets his MLS price
Milan is also pursuing Zinedine Zidane, Roberto Baggio, and George Best's corpse.
Posted Sunday August 10, 2008, About: Liverpool: Barry's price too high
Ooh, and throw Andres Guardado on that shopping list as well.
Posted Sunday August 10, 2008, About: Liverpool: Barry's price too high
Yay, Villa have kept us from overspending on another slow footed Englishman!

Can we pursue someone...good...now?

Here Rafa, I'll help you out:

Jeremy Menez
Sergio Aguero
Simao
Joaqin
Diego
Santi Cazorla
Steven Defour

etc...

See Rafa, it isn't that hard to find young, pacy, and talented players for LESS that you wanted to pay for Barry! Woo!

That being said, I suspect our next target will be Lampard, as he is old, slow, expensive, and a central midfielder.
Posted Friday August 08, 2008, About: Osorio livid after Barca blowout
Why do so many of these T&Rs wind up with at least a couple of people calling us all fat and saying we can't comment on such matters because we don't play professionally?
