LSU finished the season 5-0 against teams ranked in the final top 15, while Georgia was 2-1, and USC was 0-0. LSU was also 2-0 against teams ranked in the final top 10. Neither Georgia or USC played anyone ranked in the final top 10. LSU defeated 5 teams ranked higher than the highest ranked team USC beat, and 3 teams ranked higher than the highest ranked team Georgia beat.
