I'm a huge fan of all things from the New England area, and my favorite sports are baseball and football. I also like soccer (Manchester United) and hockey (Detroit Red Wings)

Hockey used to be one of the four major sports in the US. Now, it is on the verge of being replaced by Golf, NASCAR, UFC, and even Soccer. The lockout may have affected this, but it has to do with being on Versus. There are few people who get this channel, and a lot of those people don't even know they do. They only opportunity I had to watch the NHL this year was on Sunday afternoons, and during the playoffs. Hockey really needs to get its act together and schedule some games on major networks. Even going to a cable channel (Like the NBA) would be an improvement over Versus. Look at the…

I was watching SportsCenter and they were talking about Padres closer Trevor Hoffman, who recently converted his 500th save. The promo for the segment ended with "Is he a Hall of Famer?". You have got to be kidding. He is the only person in history to reach 500 saves, and he is unlike most closers in that his best pitch is his changeup, not his fastball. Most agree that Mariano Rivera is a Hall of Famer, and he has 419 saves right now, and is two years younger than Hoffman. I've been thinking about the whole instant replay thing in baseball, and why wouldn't you use it? Yes, umps get most calls right, but every so often there's one call that could blow a whole game or season. (Jaffrey Maier for example) It's been used in other sports (Football and hockey) and it works fine, eliminating most problems. I don't care about tradition, I want to be sure every call on the field is right.
