Scott High School's Lady Skyhawks advanced to the 2011 West Virginia High School state tourney, overcoming a slow start and a scrappy Pikeview effort and rode the all around play of all-state guard Makenzie White to cage the Panthers, 63-61.

Kimmie Thomas, a senior forward for Pikeview who tossed in a trey at the buzzer for the contest's final points, was proud none the less of the rewards of her squads initial trip to the Class AA girls state tournament. While not knowing the political party favorite of Glenville State women's basketball coach Bunky Harkleroad on Friday afternoon at the Charleston Civic Center the second-year bench-boss was acting like a Liberal.
Liberal, that is, in the usage of his allotment of playing time for his entire squad.
Harkleroad's combination of mixing pressure/trapping defensive schemes and usage of all eleven players of the Pioneers team compounded to pave the way for a 110-87 victory over a gritty Concord team.

When veteran linemen and newly-place Florida senior center Mike Pouncey declared in the pre-season this fall that, 'these young guys have a cockiness' and went on to add, 'they have yet to do anything on the field for this program and they have a lot to learn for such a cocky bunch' it should have sent hurricane warnings off in the Gainesville area.
