I want people to understand I did not carry out what was reported about me in the media. I did not take a gun into the gym when I was the head coach at Tennessee State University. Hosea Lewis, my first assistant coach, physically attacked me and came at me with a chain. I ran out of the gym went to my car looked for something to protect myself if he followed me. I told TSU AD, when I reported the incident to campus security, that there was a gun in my car but it never left my car. I do not blame the media for the false reports because they were given inaccurate information.

It has been almost five years since I resigned from Tennessee State University. I did not speak out at that time because my lawyer advised me not to say anything until the NCAA investigation was over. By the time the investigation was over, I really wanted just to move forward and not bring up past events. Due to me not speaking out when I resigned, people have presumed that the stories written about me were completely true.
