Well, the second season has begun (Hot Stove League), kicked off by the 2008 awards. I haven't posted in a while, so I thought I'd share a few thoughts. - Congratulations to Pujols, Ludwick, and Molina, who managed to pick up some hardware this offseason. Ludwick garnered a Silver Slugger, Molina got a long-overdue Gold Glove as well as a Fielder's Bible award (although this was easily his worst defensive year), and Pujols earned pretty much every piece of hardware imaginable, save a Gold Glove. Well, baseball season ended a couple weeks ago, and for the second time in as many years, the Cardinals didn't make the playoffs. Still, for the second year in a row, they've shown they have just as much moxy as any team in the league. Picked to finish fifth or sixth, they ended up ten games over .500, in it until the last month of the season. Personally, I'm hoping for the Dodgers to make it to the World Series. I've always respected Joe Torre, and I'd love for him to silence his critics, who say he only won because of the Yankees. Nothing really against the Phillies,…

All this debate about who the NL MVP is really makes me wonder what people think MVP really means. According to Philadelphia fans, it should be changed to PWHTMHR (Player Who Hits The Most Home Runs). For Mets fans, it's PWFSUATM (Player Who Finally Showed Up After Two Months). Silly me, though. I thought it stood for Most Valuable Player, i.e. the person who did the most to help his team win. And obviously I'll have a little bit of a bias, being from St. Louis.
