Benny Agbayani

A die-hard Mets fan who grew up 10 minutes away from Shea and bleeds the orange and blue with no apologies. While I love my NY teams, Ive developed an affinity for the Pittsburgh Pirates, and the 49ers and Titans in football. I've played and followed all the major sports, but my heart will always belong to my first love, baseball - and Jessica Alba, of course. I BELIEVE - (These, like life, or strike zones, will change every once in a while) - theres a difference between a game of skill and a pure sport (ya hear that, golf aficionados?); Pete Rose lost a bet that made him keep that haircut so long; the DH is as good as Tom Cruise is sane; Don Zimmer v. Pedro Martinez was pretty funny; Mark Messier was a god in Madison Square Garden; Maria Sharapova is a goddess anywhere; soccer hooligans are fun to drink with; Patrick Ewing and Billy Ocean were separated at birth; Mark Bavaro was the micky-ficky man AND THE METS WILL BE BACK IN 2008!!

Another year of being counted out, another playoff berth, another first-round elimination.  This scenario has become uncomfortably familiar for Yankees fans in recent Octobers.  On this occasion, however, it all seems to have a different tone in the background, an ominous tone of finality that's getting louder like a rapidly approaching locomotive.  It seems like the dynasty has come to an end. I'm not a card-carrying Yankees fan, but I am a native New Yorker and, like many other NYC families, have blood relatives whom I love dearly but just happen to have been born…

As we Mets fans enter this Fall of mourning, I'm trying to come up with ideas on who can fill the open positions of the players that we trade/dump.Today, I'm trying to figure out what viable options we have at 1B after we dump Delgado (and, believe me, we need to).  My recommendation is Nick Johnson.  The kid is 29 years old, has a gold glove caliber defense (although he had a hiccup in '06), can steal a base or two, and can hit for average with decent pop, kind of a younger version of Sean Casey.  His first two full seasons playing 1B were excellent (especially with…
