I'm an NHL hockey follower from Germany, and a Pittsburgh Penguins fan since the late 1990s. I try to follow current NHL/PIT events mostly via on-line magazines and sometimes watch games on ESPN360 since it is the only way to see (live) NHL games here.

And it turns out that Malkin has been part the difference this night (see my other blog post before the game). An assist by Evgeni Malkin on a goal by Petr Sykora keeps the Penguins in the game. They finally managed to score on a 4-minute power play in the third overtime, deciding Game 4 with a 4-3 win for Pittsburgh!It's 3-2 now, Red Wings, here we come!Being in Europe, I am leaving for work now. What a nice way to start a day!

If you look at the way Evgeni Malkin is playing right now, it seems questionable at best to put this guy in the line-up every other night. Not only has he failed to produce any goals since Game 5 against Philadelphia, he is minus 3 in the series against Detroit. Need I say more?One can only guess why the Malkin Man currently is in a deep slump, a hockey recession, a vegetative state. It may be the pressure, it may be the language barrier, it may be a lack of concentration. Whatever is causing him to play amateur hockey in the Stanley Cup Finals, it has to stop. It was an odd matchup from the very beginning as the Pittsburgh Penguins challenged the Detroit Red Wings in the first round of this year's Stanley Cup Finals. Marc-Andre Fleury stumbled when he jumped onto the ice, very much to the amusement of his followers, the rest of the Penguins and about everybody present Sunday night at Joe Louis Arena in Detroit.
