I just got done watching the Yankees spank my Angels. I guess it's fair, given Thursday's whuppin and Friday's gem. The best part of the game for an Angel fan -- apart from Weaver's four strikeouts to open the game -- was the scattered and all-too-brief clips from the preceding Old Timer's Game. Heck, that should have been the best part for ANY fan. After all, Old Timer's Games are the ultimate fan game, because it celebrates the greatness of your memories. The Los Angeles Dodgers' great success was built on intelligent and plentiful use of an incredible farm system. That system not only brought them 10 trips to the World Series -- five of which they won -- but it also brought them 12 rookies of the year (including a record five in a row from '92 to '96) and even trained up one of their managers, who was promoted along with a number of his players from the Dodgers' AAA affiliate. It's a reasonable question, especially here in Texas where I live. To say "football is king" is a gargantuan understatement. We're in the middle of one of the most interesting pennant races in memory, with five of the six division leads all 3-1/2 games or fewer. The exception, ahem, of course, being my beloved Angels. And we've even got a great local story, what with Josh Hamilton doing a life-imitates-art a la the Natural. Yet what's on the front page of the San Antonio Express-News?
