Bob is a long-time Phillies fan who waited 28 years (1980 to 2008) for their second World Series triumph. Bob wanted them to repeat in 2009, 2010,2011, and is hopeful again this year. (He's too old to endure another 28-year wait...) The Phils were in the World Series in 2009, but lost to the Yankees. Bob also enjoys watching NFL games, especially the Philadelphia Eagles and the Baltimore Ravens (with QB Joe Flacco, pride of the University of Delaware - Bob's Alma Mater).

Many analysts are writing off the Phillies chances this season. The team is mired in last place and has lost 8 of their last 9 games. The offense has been among the weakest in MLB. On the rare occasions when they do score, it is usually confined to one good inning of hitting, followed by an offense that goes to sleep for the rest of the game. Veteran players continue to make rookie mistakes, swinging wildly at bad pitches, not working the count, running the bases as if they were in strange unfamiliar surroundings, and booting the ball (literally) on defense. Other than Closer…

Last night, with Vance Worley and his hurting elbow on the Disabled List, the Philadelphia Phillies turned to Kyle Kendrick to start against the Chicago Cubs. Kendrick came into the game with a horrendous ERA and a record of 0-3 this season. Last year, as a spot starter and long reliever, Kendrick had posted an ERA of 3.22 and a record of 8-6. But Kendrick showed that his poor statistics this year were just a bad patch in a long season; he really pitched very well last night. He kept the ball down in the strike zone and had great command - 65 of his 93 pitches were strikes. At the…

Alas, my favorites - The Philadelphia Phillies - are hurting and limping. Of course we know that Chase Utley and Ryan Howard are literally hurting and limping, but I was speaking about the entire team. Two important areas are extremely weak just now: the Offense and the Relief Pitching. The Starting Pitching continues to be among the very best even though the starters don't have many wins. That's because the Phillies are not scoring many runs for their starters these days and because the bullpen cannot hold leads after Charley Manuel removes the starting pitcher. This series with the Mets…
