In the advent of brevity, this is a shortened version of my full blog.The coaches of the OLD Guard are in jeopardy, so what will become of the storied programs of the SEC, ACC, Big 12, and PAC-10?I assess the six oldest and most reputable coaches of college football. Who of the old guard coaches will retire first? And, more importantly, how will that impact their respective schools? I define old guard by meaning coaches who have had an impact at their school or conference over the last 10 years or more and who have helped establish a program. Many coaching names are associated with a program, and they often define the college football team for which they represent. I cannot anticipate a more eloquent moment when during SEC Media Days much revered, praised, and respected head coach Lane Kiffin proclaims that his experienced and superbly assembled Volunteer team will "put the hurt on Meyer the Cell Phone Cheater, divinely disgrace the honarable and loyal cajun, Nick Saban, and out of a fog machine in the South end zone, trounce the once-heralded Georgia BullPups."
