I just watched the video of the Jeter press conference yesterday and ...if anything I respect Derek more than I ever did. He showed class, and even his comments criticizing the Yanks and the media were delivered in a dignified manner. It has always been my view that there should be no correlation between how well an employee is compensated and how he is treated by his employer. I never bought into the argument by some employers that "I pay you top dollar so I can treat you like crap". We all know the obvious - Derek Jeter has resigned - a given. What I object to is the the manner in which the whole thing was handled.
In his career with the Yanks, I think most would agree that Jeter has been a class act and a great ambassador for the sport. Once he entered free agency, the first public comments to greet the media were by Hal Steinbrenner indicating the negotiations had the potential to be "cantankerous". I had no problem with Casey Close's response when he said something to the effect of "I find the Yankees opening negotiating moves puzzling". They…

HBO: Thrilla in Manila - Ali - Frazier Documentary

I watched the HBO Documentary on Ali-Frazier which was great! To me, the importance of this documentary was to show the other half of the story. Joe Frazier was one of the greatest fighters of all time and had the heart of a lion. If you watched the program, Ali came off as being unappreciative and cruel to Frazier especially if you take into the account how Joe went out of his way to assist Ali financially and get him reinstated in boxing during Muhammad's exile.
