Judging by Eli Manning's deadpan expression alone, the New York quarterback looked almost disengaged from the magnitude of the moment. In fact, he was rising to the occasion. After coughing up the ball a league leading twenty seven times during the regular season, the younger son of Archie and younger sibling of Peyton had shown nothing but maturity and control. He had yet to give up an interception in the post season. When a third and five pass bounced out of Steve Smith's hands into those of New England cornerback Ellis Hobbes, the promising second New York drive ended. It was the first pick Manning had thrown since the final week of the regular season. Coincidentally, Hobbes had grabbed that pass also. "Come on, we don't play young like this! Headset Guy barked. An ominous shout from a Giant fan rolled down from several rows above me. "Eleven rookies and it's gonna haunt us!"more at www.MakingTheBigGame.com

In 1980, I was a freshman at Syracuse University. Somewhere in my attic is a shirt I received along with 50,000 other fans at the Orange's home opener with Miami of Ohio. It declares "I Opened the Dome". . . that would be the Carrier Dome - built at the time for 26 million including a couple of mil for lifetime naming rights paid by the Carrier Heating and Air Corporation.  The deal was innovative and controversial... a  corporate entity was emblazoned on the edifice ...not the name of a famed former coach, university founder, or mascot symbol. Twenty eight years…

BRENDAN'S ORIGINAL MESSAGE ALSO IN POST COMMENTS...  What you will learn as a Giants fan is that this fan base is EXTREMELY loyal and knowledgable. My father became a season ticket holder in 1956 and I've been sitting in his seat since 1986. Our season ticket holder waiting list is some 20+ years long, I've been told it is the third longest in the league behind only Washington and Green Bay. Welcome to the family. I'm glad you survived a Philadelphia childhood without becoming and Eagles fan!! REPLY TO BRENDAN I did learn about that about loyalty factor with…

I WAS AN "ACCIDENTAL SPECTATOR" AT SUPER BOWL XLII"Born in Syracuse, raised in Philly, moved to California by the Air Force, and settled in Sacramento. All that travel will shake up your team passions as much as any franchise relocation or free agency dealing will. Ten days before Super Bowl XLII, I figured I would be watching the game on television like millions of other fans...until my wife casually announced at the dinner table that her boss was a New York Giants season ticket holder and lottery selected fan. He also had just undergone knee replacement surgery and debated for…
