In the past few years it seems that more and more top draft choices are holding out to get a bigger payday. The major problem I see in this is the potential for a team to shell out x-millions of dollars for a player who is unproven in a league that, let's be honest, is 10x faster than college. Let's take the case of JaMarcus Russell for example, let's say he finally signs his exorbitant contract and gets on the field. There has been a lot of commotion regarding Mike Vick and his current problems, and a lot of people think that he is not going to play football this year and possibly never again. I myself think that there is just too much going against him to envision seeing him on a football field again. His attempt at smuggling weed thru airport security was just plain dumb, so to say he's not the smartest guy isn't inaccurate, but there is precedent for his worst and best case scenario's. First off, I love sports and love rooting for my favorite team or player in all sports, but I never blindly root for anyone. Example, it's 4th and 3 my teams offense is just inside the kickers FG range and everyone knows it. Then just before the snap blocker on the end just jumps and produces a false start thereby moving the line of scrimmage back 5yds. The next play the kicker misses the attempted FG short by 2ft.
