Todd Fleming

I grew up in Pittsburgh so I'm a diehard Steelers, Penguins and, yes, Pirates fan. Some of my most vivid childhood memories are being quiet at the dinner table so we could listen to Myron Cope, the Steelers-Rams Super Bowl, and the 79 "We are Family" World Series. I'm also a college football junkie. I can watch just about any game and get drawn in. I favor the Mountain West since I went to school at Air Force, but also follow Penn State and Pitt. I will post a couple times a week to Black and Gold Fever, mostly with thoughts on the Steelers.

I'm a bit surprised at this point in free agency that nobody has signed Bryant McFadden to a huge deal.  But, I think it is coming...and soon.   Don Banks recently argued that after the initial surge in free agency, which essentially ended after the first week, the amount in the offers would drop significantly.  I disagree.  There are still some top guys out there and McFadden is one of the best who is left on the board.  The value of these top guys really hasn't dropped and their agents are smart enough to realize that patience will be…

I was very surprised the Steelers kept their starting offensive line together.  A couple months back, I figured Chris Kemoeatu was surely gone and Max Starks would likely be switching teams.  They've secured both those players with Kemoeatu likely taking slightly less to return to the Steelers than he could have secured somewhere else.  I wasn't a big fan of placing the franchise on Starks, but it certainly does buy the team some time to develop some other options.  Willie Colon will also return because nobody is going to give up a first round…

The news coming out of Steelers Central has been fairly quiet since the franchising of Starks.  The biggest story has been the ongoing negotiations between the Steelers and James Harrison's agent and the likely loss of Bryant McFadden.  The Steelers have clearly targeted Harrison as their top priority this off-season even though he has one year remaining on his contract.  And why not?  With Harrison and Lamarr Woodley attacking from the outsides, the Steelers have the best pass rushing duo in football.  Before these two are done, they could be remembered…
