I think the MLS and how it is marketed is not differentiated enough to catch anyone's eyes. By that, I mean, it tries to be like every other American sport. Divisions, playoffs, all star games, etc. So, what is different about it? They play soccer. That's about the only difference. And that is certainly not enough to grab the attention many American sports fans.But I wonder what would happen if they abandoned the US model for pro sports and adopted a more world wide approach? Would adopting something different from what Americans are used…

I think on a level we are all getting tired of this story. David Beckham, probably the world's biggest sports star (yes, bigger than Shaq, A-Rod, and Brady), came willingly and excitedly to ply his trade here in the states. With him, he brought much attention, if only out of curiousity, to soccer here. This brief opening into the large discussion of soccer's place in American sports is really just an attempt to bring up some issue rather than answer them. Soccer, first and foremost, should not be overlooked by the sporting world. It is currently, and it is what it is. But those who ignore the importance of the sport through the world and at home miss so much.
