Born and raised in the Chicago area, I learned to love sports, and the tortured nature of a Chicago fan. I cheered like crazy when the Sox were winning ugly in '83, I rejoiced when the Bears won it all in '85, I cried when the Sox threatened to leave in '86, my ego rose to a new level when the Bulls were the toast of the NBA, and the White Sox winning it all in 2005 is surpassed only by the birth of my daughter and my wedding, in terms of importance in my life. And I was lucky enough to be 1 of the many Bears fans in Miami...the Hester return was the most exciting play I've ever seen live. I'm back in Seattle now, so I follow from a distance, but my cheers can still be heard from here. New blog entries can now be found here: http://www.therustynut.com/

Spring is officially here, and nothing announces that like Opening Day in the Major Leagues.  Everything is new, everyone has a chance, and there is a long road to travel ahead of us.  But right now, let’s enjoy all the hope, and revel in the magic of opening day. From birth till the age of 18, there was one place I called home: the Chicago Suburbs.  While I was away at college, Chicago was still the place I called home.  The area and its teams became a large part of who I was.  When you grow up in a place, there is common language and thought process that is…

All great things come to an end…and all mediocre things take a break.  Dan and I love doing the Friday debates, and we love the fact that so many of you have enjoyed them as well.  Do you realize that this is the 26th (25th if you remove the Live Blog that Dan didn't show for from the running) Friday Debate?  And that a normal TV season is 22 episodes?  This debate marks the first part of our 2 part season finale. Yes, that was “season finale”…the Debates will return, but we’re going to take a break from them for awhile, recharge the…
