Pau Gasol's return to the line-up helped the Los Angeles Lakers cruise past the visiting Chicago Bulls 108-93 at Staples Center. Gasol, (24 points, 13 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 blocked shot), showed little rust as his presence in the post opened up the floor for the rest of his teammates. Kobe Bryant (21 points, 9 rebounds, 8 assists) added to the balanced attack and surpassed Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for second place on the Lakers all-time scoring list. The lead and Kobe's hot hand continued into the 3rd period. He converted on a Jordanesque move along the baseline, driving hard to the basket, then turning away from the basket and flipping the ball over his head into the hoop. Jaws dropped as Kobe casually trotted back up court while the Lakers extended the score to their largest lead of the night at 28-points. Kobe then took the smaller Ben Gordon (18 points), into the post where he effortlessly converted on his back-down fade-aways. Houston, We've Got A Problem...

Tonight, prior to the game between the visiting Houston Rockets and the Los Angeles Lakers, Trevor Ariza finally got his championship ring, delivered to center court by co-captains, Derek Fisher and Kobe Bryant. Ariza, carrying his son in his arms, graciously accepted his championship hardware and acknowledged the appreciative crowd. My only wish would have been for him to still be donning the purple and gold tonight instead of those foreign colors of red and white. Houston went on to help Ariza celebrate with a 101-91 victory over the Lakers.
