RON WILSON: 'WE MAY BE GOING AFTER THE SEDINS'

oronto Maple Leafs Head Coach Ron Wilson told Bob McCown on PrimeTime Sports today that the Leafs are looking at going after the Sedin twins when free agency opens on July 1st.

"There's a very real possibility we may be going after the Sedins," said Wilson.

Henrik and Daniel Sedin are still under contract to the Vancouver Canucks and their exclusive window for negotiating with the twins ends on July 1st. There has been speculation that Leafs GM Brian Burke will make an offer for the two players he drafted in 1999 while he was the GM of Vancouver Canucks.

Phoenix Doesn't deserve the Great One

There is a story today in Truth & Rumours that if Jerry Reinsdorf gets control of the Phoenix Coyotes then Wayne Gretzky is out as coach. Based on his performance as a coach, you can't really argue with that decision. Also, he makes $8million a year, and that is probably hurting the fanchise, but it is not the biggest reason. The biggest is, that the Glendale area does not care about hockey. For a team that lost more then $30million last year, this problem goes a lot deeper than a lack of season tickets and a coaches salary.

For those of you who didn't see it, CBC announced today that they will be bringing 'Battle of the Blades' to audiences this fall. Pairing figure skaters with former hockey players is brilliant, and so far the casting seems perfect. Tie Domi and Bob Probert are two of the contestants! Other NHLers include Glenn Anderson, Lanny MacDonald, Stephane Richer and Craig Simpson. And there is a rumour that a former Leaf netminder may also join the cast? The series will debut October 4th on the CBC and will be staged in Maple Leaf Gardens.
