Back in the glory days of the Minnesota Vikings offense, the head coach at the time, Mike Tice, came up with the Randy Ratio, meaning 40 percent of all passes were to go towards Randy Moss.  While that might have seemed like a good idea to get the ball to the best playmaker on the offense on a consistent basis, it largely failed for a couple of obvious reasons.  Passes should not go to the best player.  They should go to the open player.  Defenses figured out very quickly (partilly because Tice went and told the media about the Randy Ratio) that bracketing Moss with a…

Running an NFL offense is a complicated job.  And some people are simply not up for the task.  Either they don't understand X's and O's, of they don't understand game situations, or have an inability to adjust, or are just plain stupid.I think Bruce Arians may be one of those people.  He has shown himself to very predictable time after time, and never adjusts to the flow of the game.  For Exhibit A, I present:  Eagles/Steelers.The Eagles defense is run by Jim Johnson, and Jim Johnson is known for blitzing.  There are many known ways to beat a…

Romeo Crennel: Gutless

Romeo Crennel had his team kick a 34-yard field goal while trailing by 21 in the fourth quarter.  Gutless.  That close to the end zone, and he's afraid to try and get back into the game.  Down by 21, the ONLY way to have a prayer at winning was to score a touchdown on that drive, cutting the lead to 14.  Then, maybe, you can get the ball back twice and send it to overtime.  Instead, cuts the lead to 18, and needs to get the ball back three times, in a game where the defense is giving up chunks of yardage.  Did he really think they were going to get the ball…
