Warning: Math approaching.The Patriots dropped a game they needed to win against the Steelers this week, and now their playoff chances are looking somewhat dire. The Jets lead them in record, division record, and conference record. But a closer look at the two teams' schedules shows the outcome of the AFC East has the potential to get very very interesting. Now that deferring on the opening coin toss has made it's way to the Pro ranks, a lot of teams are unsure how to handle it. Most of them just go about the same routine they've always done, and elect to take the ball to start the game if they should win the toss. The few that choose to defer are the ones with great defenses, who feel opening with their strength is to their advantage. However, I propose that teams should ALWAYS elect to defer. Randy Ratio Revisited

Back in the glory days of the Minnesota Vikings offense, the head coach at the time, Mike Tice, came up with the Randy Ratio, meaning 40 percent of all passes were to go towards Randy Moss. While that might have seemed like a good idea to get the ball to the best playmaker on the offense on a consistent basis, it largely failed for a couple of obvious reasons.
