According to Jeff Sargin's football ratings, the Atlantic Coast Conference was the third best conference in football last season.  This isn't surprising considering the conference placed 10 teams in bowl games last season.  In 2005, the University of Miami, Virginia Tech and Boston College all joined the ACC.  The expectation of a Miami against Florida State was high but it has not come to pass.  The Miami Hurricanes have never played in an ACC championship game.  This year might be their best chance to achieve that goal and rekindle the days of old.

Randy Shannon replaced Larry Coker as the head coach at the University of Miami in 2007.  Since then he has posted a 12-13 record while trying to resuscitate a program with a championship history.  Shannon's losing record is the first losing record posted by a Miami coach in his first two years since Lou Saban did it in 1977-78.  Shannon will be on the sidelines for his third chance to prove to the FBS world that he can coach.  His assessment will consist of his recruiting efforts, his off the field control of his team, his sideline performance and…

First off for the USC fans who will probably come in droves if they read this here's the disclaimer:  "This blog used the BCS championship for the BCS years but I do recognized that the AP selected USC as National Champions in 2003)."
